  • Hanscom AFB, Medical Clinic. HCWs shall receive notification two weeks prior to the reassignment to another location with a 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF.
Position Qualification/Requirements
  • Degree/Education: Master's degree in nursing. Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Certification: Certified in the specialty required by the TO as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate
  • Board Certification: Certified in the specialty required by the TO as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice as appropriate (for example, National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, American Nurses Association, National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Specialties).
  • Experience: required to demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years in the required clinical discipline as specified.
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse.
  • U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.
  • English Language Requirement: Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
  • Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract and TO.
Core Duties
  • Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
  • Recognize conditions that require isolation and ensure universal precautions are used in all patient encounters.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement and safety.
  • Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician
  • Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.
  • Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated. Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
  • Assesses patients.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
  • Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
  • Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines.
  • Participates in the orientation of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
  • Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups, and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.
  • Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
  • In addition to the education, certification and experience listed in the basic contract and the position description, Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts requires the Family Nurse Practitioner to perform deployment related health assessment (DRHA) and annual mental health assessment (MHA) services that comply with applicable Department of Defense and Air Force policy and guidance, to include required standards of care and clinical practice guidelines. Additionally, the Family Nurse Practitioner must a have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and become proficient in the use of the following computer systems: Composite Health Care Systems (CHCS) – Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS).
  • Electronically complete the provider portion of the DRHA and document the assessment/findings in ASIMS and in the patient’s EHR/ (AHLTA). Conduct face-to-face patient encounters for each DRHA and recommend referrals/follow-up. Review AHLTA T-CONs for DRHA referrals and ensure member receives appropriate care, referrals, and follow-up. Ensure DRHA recommended referrals to specialty care (e.g., mental health, physical therapy, optometry, etc.) are ordered appropriately in AHLTA.
  • The purpose of DRHA forms is to obtain information from an individual in order to assess the state of the individual’s health before and after deployment outside the United States, its territories, and possessions as part of a contingency, combat, or other operation, (also may be utilized if CC-directed for CONUS deployments), and to assist health care providers in identifying and providing present and future medical care to the individual. The information provided may result in a referral for additional health care that may include medical, dental, or behavioral health care or diverse community support services.
Hours
  • Must work Monday through Wednesday, 0900-1300 and Thursday through Friday, 1130-1530, not to exceed a 20 hour work week.
Special Requirements/SkillsMust be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
