Lulac Head Start is Hiring an Education & Inclusion Coordinator Near New Haven, CT

Description

Summary/Objective 

Under the supervision of the Education Manager, this position is responsible for the oversight of the educational services at the designated center, supervising the infant/toddler teaching staff and classrooms, and giving support to the other Education/Disabilities Coordinator for preschool as needed. They will supervise a coach(es) and teaching staff in the coordination and delivery of developmentally appropriate Early Childhood Education curriculum. In collaboration with the teaching staff, coach, and Individual Support Specialist, they identify children who may have a special need or disability, assuring appropriate intervention and services, and for managing, implementing and evaluating comprehensive programs for children with disabilities and their families enrolled in LULAC’s Head Start Program. This position involves ensuring compliance of Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC accreditation standards and other regulations as required by state, national, grant and other partnership agreements.

Essential Functions

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serves as a member of the management team in supporting a healthy and safe workplace environment, being a supportive and coach-like supervisor and modeling the agency’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Participates in the ongoing program monitoring and assessment processes, including the preparation of monthly reports, annual assessment needs, analyzing program data and submitting data for the Program Information Report.
  • Ensures program compliance with regulations such as, licenses, grant requirements and performance standards, and adheres to and supports all program policies, and the standards of conduct, including NAEYC Code of Ethics.
  • Works with all content area managers to ensure coordination of services for children and families. 
  • Utilizes conflict resolution and emotional intelligence skills in addressing workplace challenges.
  • Collaborates with teachers, parents, local education agencies, and community agencies in developing and monitoring individual Education or Family Service Plans.
  • Reports on department compliance and areas of successes and improvement, including developing action plans.
  • Monitors, evaluates the progress of the education department and their supervised classrooms, including the completion of children and classroom data.
  • Supervises and collaborates with the Education and Mental Health consultants.
  • Attends leadership meetings and presents data and reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Supervision

  • Supervises and supports the teaching team in effective teaching practices, implementing curriculum, training, goal planning with action steps, observing and collecting classroom data, sharing feedback, and providing guidance with performance evaluations.
  • Celebrates and supports employees’ successes and provides team building opportunities.
  • Develops and monitors professional development plans for staff and participates in developing and delivering agency-wide training for staff and families.
  • Develops and delivers training, workshops for families, and provides resources.
  • Supervises and supports the coaching staff, supporting coaching to fidelity. 
  • Maintains proper classroom coverage, creating daily schedules and coverage plans.
  • Determines, recommends, and initiates corrective action for areas of improvement.
  • Collaborates with the Education Manager and Human Resources in providing career development counseling to staff.
  • Interviews potential candidates and makes recommendations for hire to Human Resources.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and prepares needed performance improvement plans.
  • Ensures teaching staff’s timely completion of learning experiences, home visits, attendance records, and observations.

Family Support

  • Participates with transitions for children, ensuring successful transitions across the program.
  • Partners with families in being their children’s first teacher with meetings, conferences, trainings, etc.
  • Collaborates with the Individual Support Specialist with the process of assessing children, completing initial screenings, ongoing development, conducting observations, and coordinating/referring children for services as needed.

Community Involvement

  • Assists with program recruitment and enrollment of children and staff.
  • Monitors attendance, and reviews/approves timesheets for teaching and coaching staff.
  • Serves as LULAC and community liaison in areas of education, disabilities and mental health.
  • Travel and attendance of workshops, conferences, and agency meetings outside of regular work hours

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development, or related field
  • Supervisory, management or leadership course study
  • Experience in supervisory role (minimum of 3 years)
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring adults (minimum of 3 years)
  • Knowledge of staff professional accomplishments
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Education and child growth and development
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Must have a health screening and TB test prior to the start of employment
  • Must pass a criminal record and background check.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of coverage of motor vehicle insurance.
