Role: Medical Coding Specialist
Location: Baltimore, MD - Remote
PURPOSE
Acts as an internal expert to ensure that as value-based reimbursement and medical policy models are developed and implemented. Provides advanced knowledge to support effective partnership with provider entities and guidance on the appropriate quality measure capture and proper use of CPT and ICD 10 codes in claims submissions.
Utilizes extensive coding knowledge, combined with medical policy, credentialing, and contracting rules knowledge to help build the effective guides and resources for providers on the expected methodologies for billing and code submissions to maximize quality and STARs outcomes while not compromising payment integrity.
Who understands what codes are
Utilization management – look at codes, reengineering effort
Understanding coding trends, need to have knowledge of medical policies
Example -- Experimental procedure is leading to lot of follow-up hospitalization
Set of codes that will need prior authorization
Must Have – 2 years of Certified coder. CPC certification or any other coding certification will work
Must Have – 5 years of experience of medical coder
Tool is Guiding Care from HealthEdge is a plus
Tool is Facets where codes are setup is a plus
Broad breath of health care experience is a plus (listed in JD)
Able to translate regulatory compliance
Reimbursements – when authorization and claims do not match (Experience will be very helpful). Have they worked in appeals
Has lot of analytical skills
