The Position

A successful candidate for Engineer I, Core Network one will have a basic understanding of Ethernet technologies, IPV4/6, Routing and Switching. These skills will be applied to general management of these technologies in Lumos Core IP Network.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provisions customers on the IP Network
• Assists with changes to harden the network with security features
• Updates customer records
• Provisions IPTV and Voice over IP infrastructure
• Assisting sales team with order entry and follow-up.
• Troubleshoots with external departments concerning network problem resolution
• Assists with Operating System upgrades and patches
• Interacts with User Advocacy Group, Sales Reps, Sales Engineers, Field Technicians and directly with customers to troubleshoot and resolve service issues at a Tier II level
• Assists with system maintenance during overnight maintenance windows
• Adheres to regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Education:
• High School Diploma required.
• Associate’s Degree (AA) or Bachelor’s Degree (BA) preferred.
• Professional level vendor certifications in one or more of these technologies, Cisco, Ciena, Zhone, HP, Palo Alto, is strongly preferred.

• Experience:
• 0-3 years of experience.
• Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business
• Correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
• Mathematical Skills – Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportion to practical situations.
• Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Computer Skills - Database Software, Design Software, Order Processing Systems, Project Management Software, Spreadsheet Software, Word Processing Software
• Additional Skills and Proficiencies –
• Must possess a thorough understanding of Enterprise and Carrier networking technologies including Cisco, Ciena, Zhone, HP, Palo Alto
• Must be willing to work unsupervised, spot potential issues and make the necessary recommendations or decisions to avoid them
• Proof of higher level reasoning skills, critical thinking, and mental acuity will be required a determined by a standardized employment test.
