DescriptionWe are currently seeking a Director of Philanthropy to join our LSMMD Philanthropy team and support the fundraining efforts for the Carroll Lutheran Village community.
Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with creating and executing an annual development plan and budget for philanthropic activities at the Life Plan Community.
  • Share new fundraising ideas, trends, best practices, and technologies, and how these might be best utilized given goals and resources.
  • Identify, research, steward, and solicit a portfolio of donors and prospective donors to increase their giving and engagement in campaigns and annual giving.
  • Gift processing and donor records: Assist with gift processing in Raiser's Edge database, send timely gift acknowledgments to donors, and maintain accurate and current donor records of all interaction with donors.
  • Schedules and conduct s donor meetings, committee meetings, post-event evaluation meetings, and provides philanthropy updates to leadership, residents, and volunteers on a regular basis.
  • Work closely with marketing and public relations colleagues to promote and publicize fundraising appeals; promotional materials and publicity, including creation of invitations and mailing lists and collateral material design, production, and distribution of event specific materials.
  • Event Coordination/Direction: Responsible for planning, implementation and follow-up for special events, seminars, and annual receptions with direction from leadership. Strategize and determine the type, scale, tone, theme, and content of events. Work in collaboration with team members, volunteers, and event planning committee(s) to increase revenue.
  • Manage donor/cultivation events, create invitations and mailing lists, track RSVP’s, work with philanthropy, facilities, catering and other departments, as needed.
  • Develop metrics to measure event success outcomes based on expenses, in-kind and monetary donations, other income generation and pre-determined goals.
  • Develop and maintain event databases utilizing event module software for event planning.
  • Donor Relations: Demonstrate a keen sense of curiosity for donors – seeking to discover what compels each donor to give; what questions to ask; and how to meet the needs of the donor in a donor-centric environment.
  • Take the lead inrelationship management and solicitation with donors through frequent personal contact including phone calls, personal notes, in-person visits, etc.
  • Communicate with donors, hosts, vendors, sponsors, and other providers to maintain strong relationships to ensure continued financial investment in our mission. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation: Provide database analysis, development, support, data extraction, and reporting that support fundraising, gift accounting/reporting, volunteer management, prospect management, event management, and membership management.
  • Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual activity to develop strategies to achieve philanthropic goals and produce reports that demonstrate fundraising results.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent years of fundraising and philanthropy experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years of professional fundraising experience for nonprofit organizations.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality with team members, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate poise, patience, tact, diplomacy, empathy, compassion, flexibility, and personal accountability.
  • Excellent organizational skills and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with the fundraising solicitation and sponsorship process, both oral and written.
  • Database management skills and proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with CRM, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading and editing.
  • Understanding of fundraising support services ranging from prospect identification through donor stewardship.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with and interact effectively with all individuals within the organization, including team members, residents, family members, visitors, government representatives, and the public.
  • Will not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
