GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the nursing services department to assure that the highest level of quality resident care is maintained at all times in accordance with Agency standards and applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards, including those set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Ohio Department of Health, and the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Responsible for managing and acting as a liaison between the facility and residents and their families; and staff scheduling, development, and satisfaction. Assesses training needs, plans and implements in-service education programs and new hire orientation for employees. Recruitment responsibilities for the nursing department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors and ensures the provision of quality nursing care to residents with a resident-centered philosophy and in accordance with Agency standards, and all federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines. Develops departmental objectives, policies and procedures in support of these regulations and guidelines and directs the implementation of such. Continuously stays abreast of changes in federal, state, and/or local expectations and revises procedures accordingly.
  • Acts as a liaison between residents, their families, staff, and the general public responding to inquiries and providing information on nursing care and services. May screen prospective and existing residents to ensure staff have the ability to provide the level of care necessary.
  • Evaluates, monitors, and manages staffing levels and availability to ensure optimal quality of care while minimizing overtime in alignment with fluctuating AL census and care levels.
  • Provides leadership, development and work direction to the nursing staff of Lutheran Village. This includes selecting, orienting, coaching, providing performance feedback, disciplining, and termination of employees as necessary. Ensures continuous, effective, appropriate staff development and training via in-service programs tailored toward the specialized needs of geriatric patients and in accordance with regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Implements and oversees infection control procedures to ensure resident and staff health and safety at all times.
  • Participates in the development of the annual budget for the nursing department. Continuously monitors and makes recommendations for adjustments as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the nursing department while maintaining fiscal integrity and responsibility.
  • Coordinates purchasing of supplies, monitoring budget and validating and coding invoices.
  • Assure facility compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and other regulatory agencies and facility policies and procedures.
  • Assist in establishing a high quality of resident care; performs daily rounds.
  • Assists with the investigations of all incidents, falls, skin, elopements in compliance with policy and procedure.
  • Conduct and documents mandatory in-services and orientation for all of Lutheran Village staff, and all areas of nursing educational needs.
  • Collaborates with ED in process and program development within the nursing department.
  • Leads and/or participates in facility surveys.
  • Performs all other duties as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS SUPERVISES: Nursing Staff and Aides

EDUCATION: Requires licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with current, active license in the State of Ohio.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years’ experience in a medical field preferably an Assisted Living or Long-Term Care Environment

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Able to effectively communicate and listen to families, residents, and staff.

Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practice and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care operations.

Skilled in utilizing teaching strategies which can be adapted to the needs of Lutheran Village.

Knowledgeable in long-term care survey process

Be compassionate, friendly, kind, and understanding of the needs of the elderly.

Management and supervisory skills.

Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, families, and support agencies.

Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide range of people.

Microsoft Word and Excel or other word processing or spreadsheet programs.

 OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Flexibility in managing schedule including weekends and evening hours.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license, access to reliable insured transportation and ability to meet LSS insurance standards required
