General Description:
Under minimal direction, the Internal Finance Auditor reports to the Accounting Manager. The primary scope of this position mitigates risks and ensures compliance of contracts and grants from a business perspective. The Internal Finance Auditor also gathers information from the company's financial reporting systems, account balances, cash flow statements, income statements, balance sheets, tax returns, and internal control systems to confirm accuracy and compliance. The Internal Finance Auditor is responsible for reporting assessment of the company's compliance and risk management. This role conducts internal interviews and audits of contracts and funding, to ensure requirements are being met. Interviews and audits with key personnel will be completed to ensure policies or procedures are in place or may need to be established, or implemented efficiently, to meet compliance for Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
WEIGHT DESCRIPTION 30Performing the full audit cycle including risk management, control management over contracts and grant effectiveness, financial reliability and compliance with all applicable directives and regulations.15Determining internal audit scope, interviews, audits and developing plans.10Obtaining, analyzing and evaluating accounting documentation, reports, data, flowcharts, income statements, balance sheets, tax returns, and internal controls.5Examines internal data for contracts, grants, financial records, and documents, to identify areas of risk or concern.15Prepares analysis, performance reports and year end data.15Industry regulations and company policies, internal auditors identify potential noncompliance.5Prepares audit reports on control issues and other findings.5All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting or a related field; and four years related experience as a financial accountant, financial analyst or business accountant., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to identify issues with financial documentation with accuracy and speed and should feel comfortable presenting recommendations to company executives and accounting personnel based on their findings. Additionally, a financial auditor must analyze information from a wide range of financial statements.
Mathematical Skills:
Strong financial and record keeping skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Abilities:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and propose proper, workable solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work with spreadsheet software programs and have basic word processing skills. Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information and situations. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to work with, appropriately handle, and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of personalities and situations. Positive, friendly demeanor. A thorough understanding of key areas such as risk, compliance, and financial legislation. Exceptional financial research training and abilities. Must be detail oriented. Ability to organize, prioritize and complete projects in a timely manner. Requires a strong sense of urgency. Courteous, reliable, flexible, rand punctuality is a must. Can handle multiple-task responsibilities and constant interruptions. Dependable, responsible, and professional. Self-starter. Strong work ethic.
