Lycoming College is hiring a Director to the Writing Center and Tutoring Services, Lecturer.
Lycoming College, one of the nations oldest residential liberal arts and sciences colleges, invites candidates for its Director of the Writing Center and Tutoring Services, Lecturer. This full-time position represents a unique opportunity for a dynamic professional to teach students and support their learning in partnership with faculty and staff.
Lycoming College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team. This position is part of the Tutoring Services / Snowden Library department and reports to the Associate Vice President for Library and Information Technology Services. The successful candidate will hold the classification of Administrative Executive, Lecturer and will work full-time (9 months) for a total of 1,600 annual work hours.

What will I do in this role?

  • Manage the Writing Center, including supervising, recruiting, hiring, and training peer writing tutors.
  • Coordinate peer subject-specific tutoring and study groups (non-math), including supervising, recruiting, hiring, and training subject tutors.
  • Teach and tutor, including teaching English Composition and conducting classroom writing workshops for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Support the functioning of the Writing Program, including monitoring the writing-focused course approval process, serving as a course and assignment design consultant, and partnering with the Teaching Effectiveness Program and Academic Assessment Committee.
  • Perform other responsibilities, including creating and analyzing student satisfaction surveys, partnering with Snowden Library on outreach events, serving as an academic advisor, and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

What are we looking for?
Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in English, rhetoric/composition communication, education, or a related discipline preferred; advanced degree in related fields also considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills,
  • Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm teaching writing to diverse groups of learners using inclusive pedagogical approaches.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of pedagogies and best practices in writing centers and writing-across/in-the-disciplines programs
  • Experience as a writing tutor, managing a peer tutoring program, and/or learning center.
