Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music or related field.
  • Teaching certification in music education is preferred.
  • Experience in a school system is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory, history, and performance.
  • Proficiency in at least one instrument and basic conducting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction:
  • Develop and deliver engaging music lessons for middle and high school students.
  • Teach a variety of music courses including Middle School Music, High School Music I, High School Orchestra I, High School Orchestra II, and Middle/High School Mariachi.
  • Prepare students for performances, concerts, and competitions.
  • Curriculum Development:
  • Design and implement a comprehensive music curriculum that meets state standards and school guidelines.
  • Select appropriate music literature for ensembles and classes.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Classroom Management:
  • Create a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a productive learning atmosphere.
  • Manage classroom resources effectively, including instruments and technology.
  • Performance and Events:
  • Organize and direct school music performances, concerts, and other events.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to coordinate performances and integrate music into school-wide events.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Assess students’ musical progress through formal and informal assessments.
  • Provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records of students’ grades and progress.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration about student progress and areas for improvement.
  • Professional Development:
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in music education.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the music program and overall educational experience.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Attend staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school events as required.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the school administration.
