Lynchburg Doctor of Medical Science Program (DMSc) is Hiring a Retail and Licensing Manager Near Lynchburg, VA

POSITION TITLE: Retail and Licensing Manager CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt REPORTS TO: Assistant Vice President of Operations Job PurposeThe Retail and Licensing Manager oversees the daily operations of the campus store, the University collegiate licensing program, and mail services (shipping and receiving). They will be the one to ensure smooth operations to maximize sales and minimize costs. The ideal candidate will have experience as a leader and knowledge of diverse business subjects such as purchasing, logistics, sales, marketing, etc. An effective candidate will also be able to motivate personnel to perform according to their maximum capacity. The goal is to manage the unit in ways that boost revenues and achieve the mission of the University. Essential Duties
  • Hiring and training: Hires, supervises, trains, and assists employees in customer service, efficient operations, store maintenance, and product promotions. Implements cross-training of employees to maintain productivity at all times.
  • Managing budgets: Manages all controllable costs with a view to maintaining profitability.
  • Marketing: Develops and maintains a schedule for employees and promotions centered on holiday sales and other cycles. Seeks ways to better promote the store, the product line and services within the unit.
  • Customer service: Handling customer inquiries and complaints, and building and maintaining relationships with customers. Provides exceptional customer service in all areas of the retail, licensing, and mail services unit for internal and external customers alike.
  • Unit operations: Ensures unit operational areas remain clean and presentable at all times. Ensures the operation efficiency of shipping and receiving processes on campus. Drives the success of the collegiate licensing program of the University through regular tracking, communication, and enforcement of branding standards on all University merchandise.
  • Inventory: Maintains proper inventory levels, ensures stocking, implements purchasing plans and maintains contact with suppliers to ensure maximum efficiency in meeting sales goals.
  • Promotional events: Planning and overseeing online and in-store promotional events or displays. Be forward thinking in product selection and styles to drive increased business in all retail operations.
  • Store environment: Ensuring the store is clean and visually pleasing, and building a positive work environment for staff.
  • Performance metrics: Clarifying how success will be measured, such as sales targets, customer satisfaction rates, and team performance. Manages staff in a professional manner and handles appropriate corrective actions.
  • Maintains confidential files and records for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Attends all departmental required meetings and training, as assigned
  • Performs any other related duties as may be required.
Minimum Experience
  • A minimum of two years' experience in a similar role in a related retail environment is preferred
  • Proficiency in office and retail management software
  • Extensive knowledge of retail strategies and consumer behavior
  • Experience in keeping stock records and managing merchandise budgets
  • Ability to facilitate merchandise movement, packing, pricing, and replenishment
  • Exceptional ability to design creative and appealing product displays
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Minimum Education
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in retail management, business, marketing, or applicable experience (4 years).

Oral Or Written RequirementsExcellent English-language verbal and written skills for understanding, interpretation, and completion of verbal and written assignments. Effective verbal communication skills necessary to provide courteous, responsive service to students, employees, and guests. Proficient mathematical skills for determination of quantities and related record keeping. Ability to communicate orally through presentations, telephone, and personal customer/vendor contacts. Ability to create and interpret reports and product quotations. Ability to give verbal and written directions to employees. Effective communication skills for conflict resolution and good customer relations. Working ConditionsTasks require the ability to stand or walk, with very little sitting, and continuously perform essential job functions. Work schedule, approximately 40 hours per week (w/ appropriate breaks). Flexibility to include nights and weekends is required. Some tasks involve climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting approximately 40 pounds, using proper lifting techniques in varying environmental conditions. Limited travel for conferences, expos, or professional development, as required.
