JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Behavioral Health Technician, I/II, RS 

Department: Recovery Services

Reports To: Program Supervisor 

Supervises: None 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Pay Grade: N2 (I), N3 (II) 

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

General Functions

The Behavioral Health Technician provides supportive services to participants in Recovery Services’ residential programs. The Behavioral Health Technician acts as support staff to our residential clinical and non-clinical staff. This position supports program technical and clinical needs, assists in organizing and maintaining facilities, and helps work therapy departments, case managers, and peer staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Behavioral Health Technician, I

  • Monitor day to day program schedules according to the therapeutic community, cultural competencies, and system of care
  • As needed, provide training to continue the integrity of the Therapeutic Village of Care (TVC). 
  • Participate in Village Council meetings and communicates any issues or concerns to the clinical team. 
  • Complete required and assigned documentation by using shift reports and interdepartmental communications.
  • Facilitate verbal de-escalation skills when necessary.
  • Understand and use Trauma-Informed and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques.
  • Provide motivational interviewing, social and emotional support to participants within R.S. programs.
  • Monitor and control visitor access per Recovery Services policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Support participants and staff to meet and maintain all health and safety standards per policy and procedures.
  • Monitor visitor and guest visitations and ensure adherence to procedures and program expectations.
  • Monitor participant leave passes, ensuring adherence to proper procedure and program expectations.
  • Communicate any participant behavioral or emotional presentations to the directing clinician and treatment team.
  • Work closely with the clinical team and participants to follow the TVC manual and Village Council model, manual, and procedures.
  • Assist with scheduling and technical aspects of meeting and group setup using in-house and established programs to facilitate meetings.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings with approved participants, family, tele-psych, and clinicians, for the smooth facilitation of groups, one-on-ones, training, etc. 
  • Attend meetings to promote participation and enhance the depth of the process.
  • Work collaboratively with all employees and team members.
  • Transport participants on assigned activities, case management services, and outings as needed.
  • Schedule and attend off-campus activities in support of the approved program goals.
  • Monitor participants’ self-administration of medication, ensuring adherence to policy and procedures
  • Document all medical transactions.
  • Maintain a respectful relationship with participants, former participants, family members, and peers.
  • Collaborate with program supervisor to maintain a working relationship with Village Council (VC) to assist with the TVC model and VC structure
  • Ensure that participants follow house rules and promote rules and expectations.
  • Model respectful, caring, calm demeanor in all interactions.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of front desk and surrounding offices.
  • Attend and participate in relevant training and meetings.
  • Provide administrative duties as needed.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned

Behavioral Health Technician, II

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities of a Behavioral Health Technician I with higher efficiency and independence level.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate groups in partnership with the clinical team.
  • Initiate and support case management efforts.
  • Complete clinical documentation for groups or other clinical sessions.
  • Coordinate and provide training to other Behavioral Health Technicians.

  • Must have strong writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy of fact reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

Behavioral Health Technician, I

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Alaska driver’s license and insurable under CITC’s automotive insurance, which requires a driver to be at least 21 years of age and have had a driver’s license for at least three years.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check.

Behavioral Health Technician, II 

  • Meets all qualifications of a Behavioral Health Technician, I.
  • Two (2) years of professional and supervised social service or related work experience working in a residential behavioral health setting or similar environment.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon completion of a satisfactory state and federal fingerprint criminal background check, approved National Provider Identifier Standard (NPI) status, and state approval as a Qualified Addictions Professional (QAP).
  • Alaska Counselor Technician (CT) or higher.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in social work, human services, or related field.
