ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required for people assigned this position.
  • Test and troubleshoot instruments, components, and assemblies to determine malfunctions on aircraft avionics system components, communications components, navigation components and electrical systems components.
  • Adjust, repair, overhaul, modify or replace malfunctioning components and assemblies in accordance with appropriate federal aviation regulations, manufacturer’s recommendations, technical manuals and industry standards.
  • Install electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft.
  • Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional tests of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Assemble components such as switches, electrical controls, and junction boxes.
  • Connect components to assemblies such as radio systems, instruments magnetos, inverters, and in-flight refueling systems.
  • Lay out installation of aircraft assemblies and systems, following documentation such as blueprints, manuals, and wiring diagrams.
  • Interpret flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems.
  • Fabricate parts and test aids as required.
  • Assemble prototypes of models of circuits, instruments, and systems for use in testing.
  • Record maintenance and repair work. Complete all checklists, forms and reports as qualified and as required in accordance with the company guidelines and government regulations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, modification, inspections, and repairs to aircraft using specialized equipment, in accordance with appropriate federal aviation regulations, manufacturer’s recommendations, technical manuals and industry standards.
  • May drive company vehicles to Assist in repairing / troubleshooting aircraft away from home base as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Basic math skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations Part 43, as pertaining to maintenance and alteration.
  • Basic understanding of circuitry and electronic theory.
  • Operational use of appropriate tools and ground equipment operations.
  • The use of all mandated safety equipment, taking appropriate safety precautions and following all safety procedures, practices and regulations.
Ability To
  • Read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical malfunctions and identify aircraft maintenance and repair needs.
  • Have good hearing and eyesight.
  • Work in tight spaces.
  • Safely lift, carry and move up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Work indoors and outdoors as necessary, with regular exposure to factors such as extreme weather conditions, loud noises and fumes.
  • Follow established company policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Read and interpret documents, such as aircraft schematics, operating instructions and technical procedure manuals.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Report to work in a regular and timely manner.
  • Ability and willingness work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of employees, department managers, customers and vendors.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Multi-task and prioritize in order to meet deadlines.

ExperienceMINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Two-year degree or certificate from an accredited two-year college, university or technical school in avionics maintenance or a related field OR equivalent military training OR two years of directly related experience in the field of avionics bench-level maintenance.
Education And CertificationUnless otherwise approved by the General Manager, individual must have the following education;
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Possession of a valid Federal Aviation Administration Mechanic Certificate.
  • FCC General Radiotelephone License.
  • Combination of training, education and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and certificate.
  • Driver’s license is required.
INTERACTION: Works in daily contact with other Maintenance Technicians, Flight Crewmembers, Management staff, and Line Service staff.
