M.C. Dean, Inc. is Hiring a Security Electronics Apprentice - St. Louis, MO Near St. Louis, MO

Position Summary

Security Electronics Systems Apprentices are employees that have basic employee responsibilities. This level Apprentice will be given instruction and work experience installing basic Electrical/Electronic equipment and components which involves using hand tools, power tools, a basic understanding of electrical blueprints, and knowledge of the NEC. Additionally, each Apprentice must make every effort to become a well-qualified Journey-person/Technician. This requires registered for related instruction courses, attending class regularly, and being on time for both work and apprenticeship school. 
 
Tasks to include, but not limited to:

  • Preparing for a cable pull with little assistance.
  • Pulling cables with little assistance, (i.e. 18-2, RG 6, Cat5e, Fiber Optics)
  • Terminating Cables with little assistance.(i,e. butt splices, insulated connectors, terminal strips/blocks and BNC)
  • Testing cables with little assistance, (i.e. VOM, Continuity Tester, TDR, OTDR)
  • Mounting devices with little assistance..(i.e. Readers, Door Contacts, Rex's, Cameras)
  • Determining appropriate ESS cables to be pulled from a set of blueprints, (i.e. cable index)
  • Accurately interpreting elevation & mounting details on a blueprint to install field devices.
  • Identifying the proper ESS codes and standards used for a given task and seek guidance as needed, (i.e. pulling cables, mounting field devices, terminating cables)
  • Identifying different types of cables and their usages.(i.e. Cable Markings, Class 2 & 3, Communication, Plenum, Shielded, High Performance)
  • Identifying different types of connectors and their usages, (i.e. butt splices, insulated connectors, terminal strips/blocks and BNC)
  • Installing ESS cable raceways & pathways with little assistance.
  • Making simple conduit bends as needed with little assistance, (i.e. 90 & Offsets to connect head end devices)
  • Assisting in terminating devices.(i.e. Readers, Door Contacts, Rexs, Cameras)
  • Adhering to all M.C. Dean and S.E.S. policies and procedures including but not limited to OT, quality, safety, accident notification, and attendance requirements.
  • Interpreting wiring details to install field devices with little assistance. ..(i.e. Readers, Door Contacts, Rexs, Cameras)
  • Assisting in testing ESS field devices, .(i.e. Readers, Door Contacts, Rexs, Camera

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and may meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED with 0 - 6 months of experience.
  • Must have reliable Transportation
  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug test post offer
  • Currently / need to be enrolled in an accredited apprenticeship program such as Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) or
  • Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
  • Vocational school or technical education training program, preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
