Import Manager Role

Reporting Relationship: Reports to VP of Import Operations

Position Summary: This position is responsible for the daily leadership and development of a team of 13. It includes overseeing the entry process and daily operations for the Customs Brokerage Department and managing and maintaining our relationships with our customers by providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the team’s tasks, ensuring adequate coverage and equal distribution of accounts.
  • Support management in enhancing operational efficiencies by making suggestions to processes.
  • Foster a conducive environment that encourages direct reports to maximize their performance and career development through continuous training and efficient performance management.
  • Ensure that staff operations are complete within established timeframes, Customs, and all relevant regulatory bodies’ rules & regulations.
  • Ensure the team adheres to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and processes to deliver compliant, efficient, and consistent service.
  • May assist with specific tasks such as finalizing and reviewing entries, customer invoicing, classification, and credit controls.
  • Offer expert guidance to both internal and external stakeholders, knowing when to engage the Compliance Team for additional support.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service by addressing customers’ needs, assisting staff to resolve service issues, and ensuring timely shipment processing.
  • Take responsibility for continuous coaching and guidance to ensure the team achieves key performance indicators (KPIs).

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite, particularly Excel.
  • Classification Skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and import processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve complex problems, and make critical decisions with limited information.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of supervisor/management experience
  • At least three years of related experience in brokerage or forwarding
  • Customs Broker License preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • CargoWise Software experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
