**Overview**
We are seeking an experienced Equipment Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, backhoes, excavators, dozers and loaders, to support our utility construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems and a proven track record of safelt operating heavy equipment while working around underground utilities in an urban work setting.
**Duties**
- Operate heavy equipment such as a excavator, backhoe, dozer, skid steers and loaders to perform various tasks related to underground utility construction to achieve production goals.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure it is in good working order and maintain equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow industry standard and client specific safety guidelines and protocols when operating equipment to avoid utility line strikes, prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient and effective project completion.
- Use mechanical knowledge to diagnose and repair equipment when necessary.
- Obtain and maintain commercial driving licenses (CDL) as required.
- Operate equipment in a variety of weather conditions and environments.
- Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and stored at the end of each workday.
**Qualifications**
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment with a focus on safety and production.
- Working knowledge of underground utility systems and the construction process of those systems
- Strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to diagnose and repair equipment.
- Valid commercial driving license (CDL) or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to operate equipment safely around congested underground utilities in urban settings.
- Physical ability to operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor tasks.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines.
- Strong safety record and a commitment to following safety guidelines and protocols.
- Must be willing to join trade union
- Must be able to pass a drug screening
- Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation
