SUMMARY

The Communications & Fundraising Coordinator is a key member of Our Just Future’s communications and fundraising team. They are part of a two-person communications team that is responsible for all external and some internal communications and a three-person fundraising team responsible for raising funds from individuals and corporations to support the organization’s work. The position splits time approximately 50/50 between communications and fundraising work, working closely with both managers to set strategy and, mainly, implement their work plans. This position generates both written and visual content, so writing, editing, and design skills (we use Canva) are essential, as well as the knack for adhering to visual and written house style guides and brand voice and tone. It is an exciting time at Our Just Future as we settle into our new brand and upgrade our messaging and look across all programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Essential

  1. Equitable and Trauma-Informed Communications: Approaching all work with equity, justice, and trauma in mind is essential. This person will need to write, edit, and evaluate all work (their own and their colleagues’) with consideration for diverse audiences. They should be eager to lift up lived experiences, craft content with accessibility and trauma responses in mind, and ensure the stories we tell mirror the range of identities among participants and in our service area.
  1. Brand Update & Ongoing Management. Our Just Future is a new name and part of a full rebrand. This person will be instrumental in helping the communications team complete the rebrand, working with staff to uphold the brand, and updating the website and materials used to promote the organization.
  1. Web Presence. This person is responsible for maintaining website content (checking links and updating page content, forms, popups, etc.) and adding new content, as needed (blog posts, photos, pages, and some functionality). Our website is ready for an update, and this person will play a supporting role in that effort. Our current platform is WordPress. An important component is working with the team to infuse the website with fundraising messages and donation pages that connect to our Neon / Constant Contact CRM.
  1. Email Communications: Manage email calendar; track and report open rates; plan, draft, and send emails in coordination with the communications and fundraising managers; and track best practices with an eye toward growing the list and its impact. Current (recently transitioned) system is Constant Contact.
  1. Social Media. Our Just Future shares information about our own work and the issues we care about on our social media channels. This person manages all channels with strategic direction from the communications director. We are currently active on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. This person will also work closely with the team director to prepare the organization’s Impact Report and other program materials, as needed. This person sometimes helps with mailhouse coordination and decision making.
  1. Event Communications. Our Just Future hosts two events each year to fundraise and steward donors, engage the community, and raise awareness about our work and the issues we care about. This person will provide communications support for these events. Communications support includes message development, electronic/online and print content (invites, ticket pages, printed programs, slideshows), etc.
  1. Storytelling. Sharing stories about our work, the people we have the honor of working with and the systems they are trying to survive is key to our communications strategy, with a commitment to sharing people’s experiences in a way that challenges mainstream narratives about poverty and homelessness. Bold, creative vision and experience with this kind of narrative is a real plus!
  1. Fundraising Appeals and Campaigns : Support the fundraising manager to execute fundraising appeal campaigns several times each year, primarily at year-end, including email, mail, and web (landing pages). Duties include helping to plan the schedule, messaging, and visuals; drafting and editing the content; and coordinating with a print shop or mail house. Help brainstorm and implement one-off campaigns several times annually, as needed.

Secondary

Editing and Copy Editing. Other communications and fundraising staff need a second set of eyes on materials from time to time, especially for grant applications. This person will help as needed to edit and copy edit outgoing materials.
