MACAA is Hiring an After School Teacher Near Lovingston, VA

Job title: Afterschool Teacher

Job type: Part-time (20 hours per week) during the school year (August – May)

Work schedule: Monday through Friday; 2:30pm – 6:15pm

Location: Rockfish Elementary or Tye River Elementary in Nelson County

Pay: $20 per hour

About the job

This coming school year, MACAA will operate a K-5 Afterschool Program at local elementary schools in Nelson County. Our program will operate at Rockfish Elementary and Tye River Elementary. Initially, we will have 15 students at each site. We’re searching for individuals with previous childcare experience to join our team as Afterschool Teachers. This role is PART-TIME with some PTO benefits. Teachers will work only during the school year, August through May. Must be at least 18 years old to apply. Job responsibilities

  • Create daily lesson plans and enrichment activities.
  • Help students with their homework assignments.
  • Monitor indoor and outdoor time with a focus on safety, cooperative play, and fun.
  • Support the positive behavior of students in a respectful, caring, and patient manner.
  • Ensure that all classroom rules, policies, and licensing guidelines are adhered to.
  • Communicate and interact regularly and appropriately with students, parents, and staff. Maintain positive relationships.
  • Meet on a regular basis with other members of the team in planning activities and discussion of individual children’s needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience in licensed childcare or school setting (K-12).
  • At least 18 years old with the ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Basic computer/technology skills.
  • Ability to pass background checks, a physical exam, and TB screen or test.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs, work indoors and outdoors, and engage in activity with students.
  • Must have reliable, independent transportation.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with dual language learners and/or bilingual language skills (English and Spanish).
