Summary

The Evening Manager is responsible for providing overall store supervision throughout the evening shift, overseeing evening Grocery employees and Dairy & Frozen employees, assisting at Customer Service, and providing guidance and direction for other departments as needed. The Evening Manager collaborates with the Grocery Manager and Dairy & Frozen Manager. Responsible for promoting store profitability by keeping the Grocery, Frozen Food, and Dairy department shelves and cases fully stocked with the fresh product. Actively supports Mackenthun’s Exceptional Experience by providing exemplary customer service and by effectively training, motivating, and leading their team.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide supervision, consistent training, and leadership for Grocery and Dairy & Frozen employees to ensure excellent customer service and team productivity. Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, feedback, and praise. Participate in probationary and annual employee performance reviews.

Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Place delivered and back stock products into shelves, frozen food, and/or dairy cases and to properly rotate and face product.

- Clean shelves, cases, and displays. 

- Ensure advertised items and displays are restocked in an efficient and timely manner.

- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, take out plastic and cardboard recycling. 

- Maintain proper sanitation in the warehouse, freezer, coolers, and sales floor. 

- Develop a clear understanding of ordering, pricing and shelf management and how these processes relate to inventory control.

Other Duties

- Assist with the training of new team members.

- Assist with and participate in Mackenthun's events by providing proper signage, creative merchandising, and involvement with promotions that make Mackenthun's unique.

- Minimize department losses due to damaged, mishandled, or out-dated products.

- Perform duties in a manner that safeguards company equipment, resources, and image.

- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- High School diploma or GED equivalent required. 

- Two (2) years retail experience required, preferably in a similar role. 

- MN Food Manager Certification preferred, may be obtained after hire. 

- Shelf management and inventory control knowledge are necessary. 

- Must have proven organizational skills. 

- Must be able to prioritize, efficiently perform duties, and delegate tasks. 

- Windows operating system computer skills required, including Google Workspaces. 

- Must have strong math skills. 

- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.

Communication Requirements

- Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language.

- Must understand and display proficiency in resolving conflict through leadership and discussion.

- Understand how and when to motivate using praise and proper correction.

- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

- Must be able to communicate a consistent message through proper use of strong business and moral ethics that support Mackenthun’s vision and commitment to our employees and customers.

Physical Demands

- Constant standing, walking, seeing and hearing 100% of the time.

- Frequent bending at waist, repetitive motions, twisting, reaching arm's length/above shoulders/below waist, handling, crouching/stooping/kneeling, climbing stairs, and lifting, carrying up to 60 lbs; and pulling and/or pushing up to 2000 lbs. with use of pallet jack. 

- This position requires close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perceptions and color vision.

Equipment Used

Including but not limited to inventory/ordering guns, computer, manual and electric pallet jack, forklift, carts, baler, box cutter, walk-in coolers and freezers.

Work Environment

- Must be able to work constantly in a refrigerated cooler of 30 degrees and a freezer of -20 degrees. 

- Employees work as a team and individually in a smoke-free facility with a multifaceted and fast paced environment. 

- Possible exposure to cleaning chemicals.
