Overview
    Responsible for soliciting gifts of $25,000 and higher from individuals (alumni and non-alumni friends).
  • Manage relationships with approximately 150 prospective donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these individuals (alumni and non-alumni friends).
  • Works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development staff, faculty and staff and other EVMS representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for institutional priorities.
  • Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations. Expertise in moves management preferred.
  • Recommends and assists with development of funding opportunities to include creation of business plans, milestones/timelines, outcomes metrics and financial requirements for building budgets for sustainable programs.
  • Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the six-figure range.
  • Reports to the associate director of development and works collaboratively and strategically with the Assistant Vice President for Development, development staff, senior management, academic leadership, other campus and volunteer leaders.
  • Work schedule will require weekends, evenings, and extended hours as needed to include meetings with donors, attending social, professional and community events, attending committee meetings and other activities.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of primary prospects in the primary territory.
  • Manage prospect activity in the primary territories.
  • Manage prospects in a secondary territory.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
  • Initiate contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors.
  • Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for donors and prospects, including working with volunteers.
  • Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
  • Produce well written and thorough proposals in concert with thoughtful solicitations at the appropriate time.
  • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
  • Work collaboratively with development staff. Offer prospect strategy counsel to the Assistant Vice President for Development, senior management, and development staff who are managing other prospects. Be a resource for development staff, from identifying potential volunteer connections to knowing about meeting and event spaces in key locations.
  • Focus on securing support for a set of campus-wide priorities that include funding for academic programs, research, academic honors, scholarships, unrestricted support, scientific/clinical equipment, and campus improvements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) accreditation is an asset.
  • Seven years successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising preferably in higher education and/or healthcare setting.
  • Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and EVMS.
  • Able to articulate the case for support so that individuals "buy in" to the vision/mission/goals and with sufficient effectiveness to secure gifts at assigned donor giving levels.
  • Interest in all aspects of medical education and a dedication to promoting EVMS' fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with faculty, senior leaders, trustees, volunteers, and the development team.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  • Experienced professional that can handle complex situations with tact and pose. Successful experience in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or related database; Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
  • Knowledge of tax laws that impact charitable giving, personal assets and estates.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required.
  • Problem-solving, research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to translate complicated scientific/clinical information for non-medical audience.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast paced environment while managing multiple deadlines.
  • Solid relationship-building skills, able to interface with international, leading faculty, administrators and trustees.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Must have a driver's license; weekend and evening work will be required.
