MADISON CITY SCHOOLS is Hiring a Network Specialist - Central Office Near Madison, WI

Job Goals: To serve as a technology leader and network administrator for the district, to work with the technology and instruction teams to ensure the network can support students, faculty, and staff needs, and to accomplish the technology team's mission.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years' experience in a computer related field
  • Cisco wired and wireless networking
  • Network Security (firewalls, antivirus, network access control, etc.)
  • Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory
  • VMware ESXi, vCenter/vSphere, and/or Horizon View

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Coordinator of Technology and Infrastructure

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A good understanding of TCP/IP principles, including TCP and UDP port usage. Knowledge of Cisco-based networks and/or products is preferred.
  • Understands and can compute IP subnets.
  • Windows scripting (Batch Files, vbscript, powershell)
  • Windows Group Policies
  • Virtualization technologies VMware ESXi, vCenter/vSphere, Horizon View, and Veeam
  • Ability to work with network storage in various forms including SAN and NAS
  • In depth knowledge of Windows client systems
  • Google G-Suite for Education
  • Ability to lift and install network/computer equipment that sometimes exceeds 50 lbs.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs and maintains network infrastructure.
  • Able to install and set up Cisco switches, Cisco access points, and Meraki access points, including the ability to implement VLANs and administer QoS features.
  • Has a good understanding of IP routing techniques. The ability to configure Cisco switches and access points is preferred.
  • Use both software and hardware-based network troubleshooting tools.
  • Communicate well and provide basic network training to end-users.
  • Configure, maintain, and provide security on wireless access points, routers, and switches.
  • Work with 3rd party contractors for maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting, when necessary, and communicate effectively.
  • Works in tandem with the technology team to ensure network and system availability.
  • Coordinates maintenance of a firewall.
  • Coordinates maintenance of web filtering systems.
  • Oversee and maintain network security systems
  • Provide technical advice as required for system planning
  • Monitoring of essential systems for performance and operation
  • VoIP system maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Research new ideas and advanced methods of networking and technology tools
  • Provide support as needed to the ACCESS Support Center
  • Document problem resolutions, changes, and SOP's
  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 240 days/8 hrs. (full year)

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
