Position Summary

The Automation Controls Technician is responsible for the design and engineering of controls and automated plant floor systems in an industrial production environment.

Essential Functions

• Proficient in the programming:
• Logix based ladder logic
• Inductive Automation Ignition platform SCADA
• Maple Systems HMI
• PC knowledge within an Active Directory managed I.T. system
• Rockwell Automation Stratix Ethernet switching and CPWE distributed networks
• Soft Starters, VFDs and motion drives of various makes and models
• Panel wiring and field panel wiring. New/update repair
• Familiar with add-on instructions, function block programming, and use, Ethernet module connections via EIP/CIP to ABB IRC5 based robots, FANUC robots, UR Cobot programming and other motion-based controllers
• Familiar with DeviceNet connections to ABB IRC5 and SC4 based robots
• Experience programming PLCs "from scratch" is preferred
• Assists Cell Technicians and maintenance in advanced troubleshooting needs for production and root cause analysis
• Coordination of new installations with contractors, debugging, and commissioning of new equipment
• Updating electrical diagrams and prints
• Creating work instructions
• Assisting production with "Top 5" initiatives in a collaborative environment
• Willingness and ability to learn new technologies including AI and vision-based inspection systems
• Mentoring Cell Technicians and Maintenance Technicians in controls aspects

Experience

• Associates or certificate in PLC or Controls and a minimum of 2 years experience in an industrial controls-related field
• Experience in a manufacturing environment in design, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement
• Coordination with in-house and external electrical personnel and maintenance employees
• Design and installation of sensors and VFDs, as well as other controls equipment
• Must be creative and flexible while still operating within the confines of a standard-work based environment
• Strong focus on task completion, and a "self-starter" is a must
• Experience with DH networks, and protocol adapters is a plus
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of roles
• Experience with Rockwell Asset Centre a plus
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365, Teams, and SharePoint
•  Ability to read, speak, write, & understand English in a professional manner
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and transportation. Will work in 3 Wisconsin manufacturing sites within a 15-minute commute. There is a possibility of working once or twice a year for one week in our Richmond, IN facility. Onsite work only
