Job Title: Outpatient Therapy Aide Job Location: Northwest Therapy Plus Immediate Supervisor: Speech Therapy Clinical Supervisor TherapyPlus Status: Non-exempt JOB OVERVIEW Responsible for assisting occupational/physical/speech therapists and therapist assistants to provide rehabilitative and technical care to the patient under the direction of licensed personnel. Responsible for safely escorting patients to and from therapy. Provide support to outpatient secretary and outpatient service specialists. Responsible for assisting with maintaining a clean and safe environment including monitoring equipment and supplies. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (INFORMATION) 1. Support department by faxing, filing and copying documents in a timely manner. 2. Support department by maintaining supply of clinical documentation and education forms. 3. Prepare program evaluation forms. 4. Maintain inventory of supplies. 5. Order and track receipt of supplies. 6. Carry out assignments in a manner appropriate to the age of the populations. 7. Inspect and maintain safety checklist. (PEOPLE) 1. Assist occupational/physical/speech therapists, therapist assistants and other treating personnel in patient treatment and/or evaluation. 2. Escort/transport patients safely to and from therapy sessions within the facility. 3. Assist with patient group sessions as directed by supervisory staff. 4. Follow instruction from supervisor and occupational/physical/ speech therapist to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department. 5. Communicate with patient, families and co-workers in a respectful manner to maintain a positive customer oriented approach. 6. In selected cases, independently perform patient treatment under the direction of supervising staff, within legal parameters. 7. Complete drug screens depending on clinic location. 8. Assist with planning and coordination of new staff orientation and provide advice and guidance for new staff members. 9. Participate and assist in department and facility committees and/or task forces as assigned. (THINGS) 1. Monitor and clean department equipment and clinic on a daily basis to facilitate safety of operations. 2. Apply or monitor routine modalities of hot packs, cold packs, paraffin, ultrasound, Game Ready as directed based on clinic location. 3. Operate blood pressure cuff and stethoscope accurately. 4. Set up equipment and supplies needed for treatment and clean up during and following treatment sessions. 5. Maintain a clean, organized and safe environment. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury. 6. Operate patient lifts, transfer devices, body weight support equipment and wheelchairs. 7. Independently operate computer to retrieve data regarding patients’ and therapists’ schedules. 8. Operate telephone to receive and transfer calls and perform other telephone functions. 9. Operate fax machine and photocopy machine in order to copy, retain or distribute essential information. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Medium work with frequent lifting. Moderate assist transfers for a patient of 250 pounds who is able to use his/her upper extremities for support routinely requires pulling/lifting force of approximately 50 pounds to be generated in order to complete a safe transfer. Requires sufficient strength to produce 50 pounds of force to push a wheelchair with a 300-pound individual on level surfaces. Constant walking with maximum duration of up 30 minutes sustained walking on tile, carpet and other surfaces. Must tolerate frequent standing with sustained periods of up to one hour on tile, carpet, and shower surfaces. Must tolerate frequent sitting with sustained periods of up to one hour. Frequent reaching with both arms at low, waist, and high levels. Frequent grasping of both hands for transfers and repositioning requiring normal grip strength based on national averages. Frequent stooping, bending, and twisting are required for patient care. Constant near visual acuity to evaluate and monitor patients. Ordinary hearing and speaking skills. May be exposed to biohazardous materials. May be exposed to high temperature and humid conditions and to disinfecting chemicals in the pool for prolonged periods. May be exposed to patients in an aggressive or agitated state. Mobility required for travel to scheduled events or meetings as needed. QUALIFICATIONS Must have high school level knowledge with basic reading, writing, and communication skills. 1-2 years’ experience as a physical therapy aide preferred. CPR for Health Care Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuer required at time of hire or within 30 days from date of hire. Incumbent must be 18 years of age or older. May be required to drive a motor vehicle. If required to drive, must have current valid driver’s license, must submit a copy of current driver’s abstract reflecting a good driving record, and have the required mobility needed to drive.
