Position SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer Lead for special processes will report to the Director of Engineering, Magellan Aerospace Haverhill (MAH). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: development and implementation of new special processes as well as maintenance and upgrades/improvement of existing processes. Training and coaching of Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians in special processes and special process development to achieve FPA/FPD approvals.
Responsible for all in house Special Processes e.g. Plasma Nitride, Aqueous wash, Metallurgical Lab preparation and analysis, Carbon Filament Winding, Grit Blast and Glass peening, Paint, Ink Jet Marking. Oversee new Special Process development and implementation through, but not limited to; due diligence, design, procurement, installation, project plans, start-up, and validation trials/reports to ensure customer conformance.
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee new product special process development in line with targeted timelines
- Develop manufacturing processes, shop floor operation drawings, setup procedures, fixture design, tooling selection to achieve qualification.
- Provide direct manufacturing support by proving out new process, programs and ideas in manufacturing environment.
- Work in conjunction with the customer and Quality Engineering ensuring customer requirements are achieved and process capabilities understood.
- Address product non-conformances. Utilize NCMR process to disposition material, identify root causes through use of data and implement effective corrective actions.
- Work directly with the customer to alleviate process issues and product non-conformance.
- Create concepts for fixtures, gages, and special cutters.
- Development of work instructions and Standard Operation Procedures (SOP). Ensure training has been provided, compliance kept and that these documents are updated as required.
- Support quality and manufacturing initiatives from technical perspective Review cost of current production products and identify areas for cost improvement.
- Oversee the Metallurgical Lab analysis for accuracy and conformity
- Oversee/train manufacturing engineers/technicians for all in house special processes.
- Guide special process manufacturing engineers/technicians to meet development implementation timelines.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, or Metallurgy, or equivalent 10-years Manufacturing Engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of Uni-Graphics (UG) NX 7.5
- Working knowledge of Plasma Nitride Heat Treatment and laboratory procedures and analysis pertaining to Low alloy Steels a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage and coach technical resources.
- Ability to interact with customers and suppliers to resolve concerns, issues and non-conformances
- Some travel required, both domestic and overseas
