The opportunity 

The Production and Manufacturing roles bring Magic Leap’s revolutionary AR capabilities to life, converting our complex technical developments into consumer and enterprise AR products. Working very closely with the Product Development & Engineering teams, production and manufacturing teams are responsible for the production activities in our manufacturing and field site environments to optimize resource usage, minimize costs, and maintain the highest quality standards of our AR products. Activities include planning, managing, and reviewing production operations to achieve output and quality objectives; undertaking production activities to transform tangible inputs (e.g., raw materials or semi-finished goods) or intangible inputs (e.g., ideas, information, know-how) into finished products or services; developing and implementing production schedules to ensure the effective use of labor, tools, plant, and equipment; operating, monitoring and maintaining machines and production equipment.

As a Sr Manufacturing Technician in Production and Manufacturing, you will be responsible for maintaining existing process equipment and developing best practices to reduce equipment downtime. You will focus on quality workmanship while abiding to the standards set forth within a given process. In this role, you determine, order and maintain spare parts and tooling required for maintenance. 

This role is based at our HQ in Plantation, FL. Relocation assistance available.

What you’ll do 

  • Interact with vendors and process engineers on equipment installation and qualification.
  • Participate in yield improvement team efforts.
  • Review equipment performance charts.
  • Advise on corrective action plans.
  • Document and report results of maintenance activities within maintenance management systems.
  • Write and maintain work instructions related to equipment maintenance.
  • Improve equipment uptime while maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Hands-on mentality working in a team oriented environment.
  • Properly maintain spare parts and miscellaneous equipment for maintenance.
  • Work in a class 100 clean room environment and abide by cleanroom protocols.
  • Report any safety incidents to the proper channels.
  • Develop innovative solutions using Six Sigma and LEAN principles.
  • Assist Engineers with design of experiments.
  • Determine spare parts and miscellaneous equipment for maintenance.
  • Implement and review equipment performance charts.
  • Perform administrative duties within the maintenance management system to revise/update PM tasks and parts required by toolsets.
  • Develop and implement training schedules and standards for new upgrades or preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Research new equipment for purchasing.
  • Initiate equipment maintenance with disciplined data collection and interpretation.
  • Takes initiative to lead continuous improvement projects.
  • Builds positive rapport with machine vendors.
  • Initiates and maintain collaborative efforts (meetings, syncs, presentations) for projects as needed.
  • Mentors junior technicians on advanced skills and machine maintenance approaches.

The experience you bring

  • 5 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing equipment maintenance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline.
  • Able to notify team and stakeholders on line down situations.
  • Able to use Google Suite and Windows 10 software.
  • Able to pick up items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Collect and document equipment-related data and repair actions.
  • Team player attitude willing to assist other members in the team when necessary.
  • Basic understanding of PLC machine to control interaction to detect faults.
  • Intermediate knowledge of wafer handling robot (set-up, recovery, preventive maintenance).
  • Mechanical
    • Familiarity using hand tools such as screwdrivers, crimpers, allen keys, shims, calipers. Can identify, name, and list the primary function of motors, shafts, clamps, linear drives, rotary drivers, couplers, bearings, actuators, pistons and valves. Understands X, Y, Z, CW, and CCW spatial movement in regards to motors and actuators.
    • Perform preventive measures on mechanical components.
    • Ability to repair complex mechanical issues encountered with motors, shafts, clamps, linear drives, couplers, bearings, actuators, pistons and valves which require disassembly of component housing.
    • Ability to use CAD or CREO to optimize mechanical parts to improve performance of machines.
  • Electrical
    • Can read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. Able to use voltmeter to safely verify DC or AC presence on a circuit.
    • Able to solder AWG wiring for connector and component replacement. Able to diagnose faulty electrical components (relay, circuit breaker, fuse, switches, diodes, capacitors, resistors) by testing electrical inputs and outputs. Understanding of Ohm's Law to trace electrical signals throughout a circuit 24VDC and 110/220 VAC.
    • High and low voltage testing experience. Able to test power sources and create test circuits for complex electrical issues using power meters and spare components.
    • Able to diagnose and troubleshoot down to component level. Micro miniature soldering experience. Able to refurbish CCAs with surface mounted electrical components.
  • Pneumatic
    • Able to trace pneumatic lines to source. Can identify solenoid valves, able to install push to connect air fittings, able to depressurize pneumatic lines safely.
    • Able to perform preventive maintenance of pneumatic components (solenoid valve, air knife, ionizer bar, needle valve, air filters ). Able to safely replace solenoid valves, air knives, ionizer bars, needle valves, and air filters.
    • Able to adjust pneumatic pressures to improve tool performance with quality, cost, and throughput in mind.
    • Able to implement new CDA channels for improved machine performance. Able to detect CDA line punctures by feel or sound.
  • Controls
    • Able to identify proximity sensors, light emitting receivers, thermocouples, pressure gauges for water/air/or vacuum.
    • Able to correlate alarms to sensors on tools.
    • Able to adjust sensor settings within I/O interface to determine faulty signal versus hardware failure.
  • Troubleshooting
    • Understands front to back or back to front fault checking method. Documents each step taken to understand the issue at hand in a clear manner for follow up and collaborative efforts. Uses knowledge to drive to the root cause of failure when possible, minimizing repair costs when possible.
    • Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, control, and PLC applications to facilitate resolution. Corrective actions prompt continuous improvement. Full collaboration with the vendor, able to work on all issues on a tool with vendor remote support.
    • Extensive knowledge across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, control, and PLC applications. Able to identify secondary and tertiary resolutions to the same problem using minimal resources.
  • Programming
    • Basic knowledge of PLC Troubleshooting. 
    • Understanding of logic and signal triggers to rule out PLC errors within 1 hour of fault occurrence.

  • Calibration verification using certified LTS parts or fixtures.
