Title: Professional Tutors
Professional Tutors will provide expert academic support to students, helping them to understand course materials, develop study skills, and achieve academic success. They will work closely with students across various disciplines and often specialize in specific subject areas. Professional Tutors promote a sense of community and work to achieve the learning outcomes as defined by the KVCC for academic support services.
Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: N/A
Contacted Professional tutors are compensated using the following pay scale based on highest level of earned credential:
• $20.00/hour for Associate’s Degree
• $23.00/hour for Bachelor’s Degree
• $25.00/hour for Master’s Degree or higher
Responsibilities:
Depending on subject expertise, professional tutors may be required to perform the following duties:
• Provide a high aptitude in the topic area(s) that are being tutored. Tutoring services for major subject areas including, but not limited to science, math (s), psychology, communications, early childhood, mental health courses, business, technology, sciences, online education and trades
• Provide one-on-one or group tutoring sessions to students, in-person on the Fairfield and/or Alfond campus as well as virtually via Zoom or TEAMS, during open hours or by appointment – some nights and weekends may be required to meet the needs of the student. Staffing open drop-in hours for student support may also be required.
• Participate in planning, arranging, and providing student success skills and/or TEAS workshops.
• Assist students in understanding and mastering course material.
• Help students develop effective study strategies and time management skills.
• Collaborate with faculty to understand course content and expectations.
• Track and document student progress and provide feedback.
• Participate in professional development and training sessions.
• Create and maintain a supportive and positive learning environment.
• Utilize educational technology and resources to enhance tutoring sessions.
• Provide assistance with writing, including brainstorming, drafting, and revising.
• Offer support in test preparation, including standardized tests and exams.
• Develop and host group workshops on key academic skills subjects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Eligible candidates must:
• hold an associate degree in a trade or technical field specific to the subject being tutored; a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is preferred.
• have demonstrated an understanding of the field of study.
• have the ability to promote a positive and safe learning atmosphere
