The Department of Psychiatry at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Portland (MH MMCP) is seeking a well-qualified BC/BE Adult Psychiatrist or Adult, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our Psychiatric Emergency Service as a faculty clinician-educator.
The Psychiatric Emergency Service is an interdisciplinary team comprised of Psychiatrists, Advanced Practice Providers, Social Workers, and Nurses. We provide consultation and treatment services to adults and youth presenting to our Emergency Department. Some patients are assessed in the 6 bed Acute Psychiatry Unit (APU) embedded in the Emergency Department, others in the emergency department proper. Our service assesses about 4200 patients annually and is highly valued by our colleagues and stakeholders.
The successful candidate will join a pool of emergency psychiatrists to provide shift coverage in the ED, 12 hours/day, 7 days/week, following a hospitalist scheduling model. Some weekend and holiday work is expected, with no overnights. Average of 13 shifts/month, with ample blocks of time off for a full-time position. The Psychiatric Emergency Service is a major teaching resource for the hospital. We offer acute psychiatry training experiences for adult psychiatry residents, child & adolescent psychiatry fellows, Tufts University School of Medicine medical students, and trainees in other fields. Our psychiatrists hold faculty appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine. We have a culture of continuous quality improvement, and our performance in the areas of safety, quality, and satisfaction are consistently rated as excellent.
MH MMCP has 700 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital and Level I Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and an integral part of Tufts University Medical School. The successful candidate will have an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine, and the position will involve teaching and mentoring residents and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program. MH MMCP serves as the flagship of MaineHealth’s integrated delivery system.
