Summary

Position Summary

The surgical scheduler is responsible for all surgical bookings; pre-certification of surgical procedures with insurance companies, pre-admission testing and referrals, radiology bookings, pre-certification of radiology studies, pre-certification of workers compensation cases, and referrals. Explains to patients the surgical process in detail and answers any questions. Collects and codes all surgical and/or obstetrical charges from the practice providers. Interacts closely with the OR schedulers/staff, PAT department, radiology schedulers, pre-cert staff, and billing/coding department as needed.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

1. 1. Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
   2. License/Certifications: CPC certification preferred. BLS certification preferred.
   3. Experience: Minimum of two years' office experience in the medical field demonstrating an excellent understanding of medical terminology.
   4. Proficient computer skills.
   5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary when interacting with patients, physicians, leadership, and other staff with the ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
   6. Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks with the flexibility to meet changing demands on a daily basis.
   7. Understanding of CPT and ICD10 codes preferred.
   8. Knowledge of surgical procedures desirable.
