Apollo is a newly formed subsidiary of the MaineHealth system focused on primary care innovation and disruption. Apollo is seeking a Vice President of Medical Informatics who will leverage their extensive experience in healthcare technology, clinical informatics, and strategic leadership to transform the primary care delivery mode.
The Vice President of Medical Informatics will be a passionate clinical and business leader with a strong executive presence on a mission to transform primary care. This leader will collaborate with Apollo’s President, Chief of Staff, and Chief Medical Officer to design, implement, and practice within a new primary care enterprise that exceeds healthcare’s quadruple aim. The Vice President of Medical Informatics will have a distinct philosophy on how technology and informatics can support healthcare services.
Required Experience
  • MD, DO, DNP, NP, or PA.
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Informatics, or Business Administration preferred.
  • Clinical Informatics Board Certification desirable.
  • Epic Physician Builder Certification desirable.
  • Prior clinical IT implementation and support incorporating provider workflow automation is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of outpatient-based provider experience to include at least 3 years in a leadership or management position involving clinical information.
  • A track record of building thriving teams in a fast-paced environment that can carefully weigh options and risks.
  • Entrepreneurial background/start-up experience.
Key Responsibilities and Desired Outcomes
  • Has overall responsibility for ensuring that systems used within Apollo are medically and clinically sound and support best evidence-based practice.
  • In collaboration Apollo leadership team and clinical stakeholders, is responsible for developing and maintaining the strategic plan for clinical and medical informatics, considering current state, organizational and technology evolving needs and capabilities.
  • Is knowledgeable about clinical practice in primary care setting and translates that knowledge to system requirements.
  • Leads clinical process improvement through evidence-based approaches using data, clinical IT, process engineering, education, and best-practice protocols.
  • Leads work to plan, prioritize, and design support systems within scope of responsibility.
  • Participates in various levels of system selection, implementation, process redesign and support that enables optimal patient care and workflow.
  • Works across organizational boundaries and serves as the lead advocate for clinical users in the development of systems.
  • Stays abreast of relevant legal, regulatory and practice standards.
  • Works with Director of Operations to establish effective mechanisms and processes to ensure the organization receives education relevant to the appropriate use of technology within healthcare.
  • Evaluates the impact of information technology on clinical processes and identifies areas to promote use of technology in creating efficiencies for clinicians and improving quality of care.
  • Gains the support and consensus of physician leadership regarding information technology needs and priorities.
  • Serves as key focal point in communicating to clinicians on matters of clinical systems, including clinical support for go live and adoption events, service lines and other clinician forums.
