Director of Finance

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Finance to oversee our organization’s finance function. The ideal candidate will advise senior management on financial planning, cost-savings, forecasting, budgeting, cash flow, investments, key performance metrics, reporting, analytics, compliance, tax, and policy matters.

This role manages and maintains the chapter’s accounting functions on an accrual basis, including accounts payable, receivables, cash receipts, disbursements, in-kinds, fixed assets, depreciation, inventory, general ledger transactions, and bank/investment reconciliations. As a key liaison to Shared Financial Services (SFS), the Director ensures accurate, timely reporting in accordance with chapter, Make-A-Wish America, and GAAP guidelines.

This role reports to the Vice President of Operations and isis a hybrid position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting and Financial Management

  • Oversee accounting functions including accounts payable, receivables, cash receipts, disbursements, fixed assets, inventory, and general ledger transactions.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, budget variances, and financial reports.
  • Develop and manage the annual budget with senior management and the Finance Committee.
  • Prepare financial and cash forecasts and analyze monthly reports from SFS.
  • Manage payroll and 401(k) administration.
  • Review investment activities and provide reports to stakeholders.
  • Support SFS with the annual financial audit and ensure compliance with tax filings and regulations.
  • Implement and enforce internal controls and operating policies.

Liaison and Communication

  • Serve as the liaison with SFS to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Act as the liaison to the Board Finance Committee and Board Treasurer with the VP of Operations.
  • Manage relationships with bank and investment managers.
  • Ensure compliance with government documents, licenses, and legal requirements.

Training and Support

  • Train staff on compliance and performance standards.
  • Provide accounting support to other departments.

Operational Management

  • Recommend check requests for CEO/Board approval.
  • Improve treasury management, payroll, AP, and purchasing services.
  • Oversee employee and wish family credit cards.
  • Manage contracts to limit risk and reduce costs.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with policies, internal controls, and regulations.
  • Conduct monthly audits and prepare for National compliance audits.
  • Maintain PCI compliance.
  • Complete applications for Charity Watchdog organizations.

Other Duties:

  • Serve as a support to the Vice President of Operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Business or Accounting degree is mandatory; a master’s degree in accounting or finance and CPA certification is a plus.
  • Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a senior management role, with a preference for candidates with external audit and in-house financial management experience.
  • Non-profit experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in electronic database management and Excel.
  • Knowledge of NetSuite and Salesforce is a plus.

  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and personal integrity is crucial.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management, preferably NetSuite and Excel.
