Malvern Behavioral Health is Hiring a Food Service Director Near Philadelphia, PA

Malvern Health is currently seeking a full-time Food Service Director for Malvern Behavioral Health and Malvern Treatment Centers - Philadelphia. Malvern Behavioral Health is an inpatient, acute behavioral health program and Malvern Treatment Centers is a rehab and detox program, both located in the heart at Constitution Health Plaza in South Philadelphia. The Food Service Director would ensure high quality food services for both Malvern Behavioral Health and Malvern Treatment Center while also operating a small retail cafeteria named Café of Broad. This role would also entail the oversight of contract food services to additional units with Constitution Health Plaza. The Food Service Director position provides a wonderful leadership opportunity while also offering a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package! We are seeking applicants who have strong customer service experience, exceptional kitchen and cooking skills and can build a strong and effective dietary team through mentorship and communication.Position Summary: The Food Service Director prepares food items and directly oversees all food service production for patients, staff, and visitors as well as all retail and catering operations. The Food Service Director provides mentoring, supervision, and coordination of dietary staff to maintain high standards of quality food production, safety, sanitation, and service in accordance with established policies and procedures and in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Malvern Health Food Services.
Summary Of Essential Position Functions
  • Prepares meals, snacks and food for patients, staff and any other dietary functions up to and including catering and retail operations.
  • Cleans and maintains kitchen, equipment, and storage areas to be free of all debris. Manages proper sanitation procedures and ensures compliance of weekly and monthly cleaning schedules with staff.
  • Ensures proper operation of all food service equipment and reports any concerns to the Regional Director.
  • Monitors for compliance with County, Department of Health and CARF/Joint Commission standards.
  • Follows dietary standards for special diets ordered for patients and educates staff on how to execute diets.
  • Presents attractive plates with fresh, wholesome, and nutritious foods in a cost-effective manner; presents food properly seasoned; presents food on time and at proper temperatures; and prepares meals of proper quality.
  • Follows recipes for food and provides food in sufficient quantity according to census.
  • Ensures daily temperature logs are maintained with use of functioning thermometers in all cold storage units & mechanical dish washing equipment.
  • Executes monthly purchasing analysis for all sites.
  • Finds suitable uses for excess food to avoid waste and educates staff on how to reduce waste.
  • Properly stores, dates, and rotates stock.
  • Coordinates and communicates necessary preparation for next days meals with prep lists for staff.
  • Plans and coordinates new ideas and new menu items.
  • Attends in-services and all required trainings.
  • Checks all deliveries for accuracy and quality.
  • Oversight of sanitation, placing food orders, confirmation of deliveries, temperature log checks, assurance of food quality and rotation.
  • Assists with maintaining professional behavior and food quality and procedures for the department.

Job SpecificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position.
Education: Associate degree of higher in a related field.
Experience: Minimum seven years of institutional cooking experience along with restaurant & retail experience.
Licensure/Certification: Serv-Safe Certification
Knowledge: A well-seasoned culinarian with near expert knowledge in food sciences, operations support, managing managers, food cost control, working within a budget and vendor relations.
Supervision Received: Regional Director of Food Services
Supervision Exercised: Dietary Staff
Environmental Condition: Works in food production kitchen setting subject to extreme changes in temperature. Exposure to chemical dependent and dual diagnosis patients. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. Exposure to equipment and cleaning products and fluids.
Physical Requirements: Heavy physical workload. push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Requires standing, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and stooping throughout the shift. Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen.
