Work Location: Braden River Park, 5201 51st St., E, Bradenton, Florida 34203
Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7 am - 3:30 pm
This classification assists in manual, semi-skilled level work involving maintenance/repair of County parks, beaches, facilities and equipment, including minor construction of park amenities (picnic tables, benches, grills), passive recreation amenities, play areas and related equipment, in accordance with area of assignment. Employees in this class perform a variety of skilled manual labor tasks requiring some job acquired skills in specialized fields. Work involves considerable public contact in providing information and assistance to patrons.
Note: Work schedules may involve weekends, holidays and rotating shifts all of which entail independent responsibility in handling emergency situations and closing parks.
Working Conditions
Indoor/Outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Climbing and descending ladders and stairs. Strenuous work under a variety of weather conditions. Shifts may include weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. With proper training, operates hand tools and power tools, mowers, tractors, trucks, and related equipment for job assignment.
Essential Functions

High school graduate/equivalent.
Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
Must meet Parks Maintenance Tech Career I Ladder training and certifications requirements within 12 months of hire.
Grounds maintenance experience desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, landscaped areas, and related buildings and equipment, as required for area of assignment.
Knowledge of potential hazards and applicable safety precautions necessary for the protection of the public and employees in natural areas and passive recreation settings.
Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn and apply Manatee County Policy & Procedures, regulations and operating procedures.
Ability to understand daily routines and daily record keeping requirements.
Ability to learn computer based on-line time and attendance system and keep accurate work records.
Ability to read, write, understand and speak English.
Ability to follow oral and written directions communicated in English.
