The Manhattan Youth Downtown Community Center is seeking a qualified, experienced Parent/Child & Pre-K Swim Instructor to join our Aquatics team. Our program offers classes for swimmers of all ages and abilities, from infants through adults. Our teaching philosophy follows a child-centered approach, fostering joy and love for swimming. Swim Instructors are expected to create a positive and supportive learning environment. The Parent/Child & Pre-K Swim Instructor must be comfortable teaching a wide variety of swim lessons for ages 6mo-4yrs. This includes parent/child songs classes for infants, structured learn-to-swim parent/child classes emphasizing safety and skill progression, and private or small-group lessons for toddler and preschool age groups. Candidates must be punctual, reliable, personable, and have a strong desire to work with children and families. They must be comfortable leading and interacting with a group of parents, providing support, guidance, and feedback.
Positions to start in Summer or Fall 2024. We are specifically looking for instructors with Saturday or Sunday availability, though will have additional opportunities to work throughout the week. Please indicate your availability when applying.

Plan lessons, select age-appropriate activities and evaluate children’s swim levels and progress
Provide positive feedback and adjust lessons as needed to address individual needs
Maintain ongoing communication with deck supervisor and administrative personnel
Maintain a positive and energetic attitude and exhibit passion for teaching swim lessons
Ensure a safe, clean and organized pool environment
Wear appropriate attire
Attend in-service training sessions and staff meetings
Perform other job-related duties as required
Qualifications
Expertise working with children ages 6mo-4yrs and teaching parent/child classes
Ability to form positive, supportive relationships with both children and adults
Enthusiastic attitude and team-player mindset
Must be open to a collaborative environment and daily feedback from our leadership team
WSI Certification or equivalent experience is a plus
