UTE PASS BOCESVACANCY NOTICEPOSITION: Transition Paraprofessional-part time position
LOCATION: Serving our member districts, which include CrippleCreek-Victor, Manitou Springs, and the Woodland Park School Districts.
Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Lift at least 40 lbs
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Pass the district certification process to drive a district vehicle transporting students
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision while in the community with students
Job DescriptionUnder the direct supervision of the Ute Pass BOCES Transition Coordinator the transition
paraprofessional/job coach role is to provide services to 18 to 21-year-olds being served under
an IEP.
Such Services Will Include
  • Job exploration counseling: Career counseling designed to assist students with a disability explore career options and develop motivation for employment.
    • Examples include:
      • Community outings to area employers and worksites
      • Exploring career cluster videos/information/ and other career exploration curriculum
  • Work Based Learning Experience (WBLE): An experience that uses the workplace or real work to provide students with a disability with the knowledge and skills that will help them connect school experiences with real life work activities and future career opportunities. It is essential that the direct employer or community involvement be a component of the WBLE to ensure in-depth student engagement. WBLE are meant to engage, motivate, and augment the learning process.
    • Examples include:
      • Job coaching in several BOCES in house work experience programs
      • Setting up and job coaching students at worksites in the community
  • Counseling for opportunities for enrollment in post-secondary training: Counseling and guidance provided to students with a disability on a variety of post-secondary training opportunities.
    • Examples include:
      • One-on-one and/or group activities exploring options
  • Workplace readiness training to develop social skills and independent living: Training provided to students with a disability to develop the skills and behaviors that are necessary for employment including the specific social and interpersonal skills as well as independent living skills.
    • Examples include:
      • Guiding students through the work readiness training curriculum
      • One-on-one or small group job coaching to assist students in developing soft and hard skills relating to their career interests
      • Assisting the transition coordinator with activities and community outings that build on the students knowledge of independent living skills and community access
  • Instruction in self advocacy: Instruction that supports a student with a disability to effectively communicate, negotiate, and/or assert his or her own interests and desires including the development of the skills necessary for self-determination.
    • Examples include:
      • Assisting the transition coordinator with teachingself-advocacycurriculum
      • Helping student practice self-advocacy skills during community outings and work based learning activities
Terms Of Employment
  • .2 FTE
  • Contract Starting Date of IMMEDIATELY. Contract for the 2024-2025 school year, 3 hours a day, 3 days a week, based on Transition Calendar
  • Salary based on salary scale and adjusted for additional education and experience
