Manor Independent School District is Hiring an Attendance and Dropout Prevention Specialist Near Manor, TX

Primary PurposeTo enable each student to experience maximum benefit from his or her educational opportunities by addressing those barriers that prevent or interfere with student learning while balancing the individual needs of each student with the needs of the entire system.
Education/Certification/Experience
  • Entry Qualifications: Texas Commission On Law Enforcement (TCLE) School marshal license, commissioned Texas peace officer license or Basic Texas Peace Officer Proficiency Certified by the TCLE, a social work background and/or valid Texas standard principal certification or other related certification.
  • Various work experiences in a related field.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of criminal investigations, law enforcement report writing, and criminal law.
  • Skill in computer applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook); organizational and communication.
  • Ability to understand the needs of students; communicate with all parents and administrators; interpret policy, procedures, and data.
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
Essential Job Functions
  • Assists in establishing and managing improvement efforts of Student Support Services.
  • Provides leadership and/or support for campuses for responsible student behavior, equity issues, student sexual harassment, discipline, drug dogs, Title IX, etc.
  • Works with parents and administrators to resolve student complaints; follow-up as needed.
  • Provides leadership to balance consistency with flexibility in areas of responsibility.
  • Develops training and procedures in areas of responsibility to ensure exemplary operations.
  • Provides feedback and support of MEA and MAP programs.
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of student support staff and SROs.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a safe and secure learning and working environment for students and district personnel; review and monitor video surveillance for potential infractions by students, employees, or other.
  • Facilitate a district-wide afterhours surveillance program; provide leadership and direction to the district afterhours security officer.
  • Assist in conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations.
  • Assist in developing and implementing school safety programs; promote crime prevention and traffic safety.
  • Serve as a resource to district personnel in matters related to criminal justice, juvenile justice and traffic administration.
  • Develop and facilitate a comprehensive school based drug detection program for students; facilitate the usage of narcotic search dogs to detect illicit drugs on campuses.
  • Investigate cases of unexcused and excessive absences, tardies and enforce provisions of compulsory attendance laws (Texas Education Code
  • 25.091.)
  • Issue warnings; file complaints against students, parents, or individuals with parental control in accordance with compulsory attendance laws, Texas Education Code, and board policy; and refer to appropriate court; interpret and communicate compulsory attendance laws and school policy to parents and students; represent the school district in court hearings resulting from attendance problems.
  • Confer regularly with teachers, counselors, principals, and other staff to identify problems of tardiness, attendance, and student truancy.
  • Maintain contact and act as liaison to local law enforcement agencies and courts in the area of student truancy.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including records of all cases investigated and reports required by the commissioner of education.
  • Implement and comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of student attendance.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesServe as a district contact for campus student resource officers, provide functional supervision of district hall monitors, and other security personnel.
