Position Summary

The Associate Site Director, Student Life plays a crucial leadership role at Mansfield Hall. You will manage and guide the student life team, ensuring the highest standards of support and intervention for our students. This position involves overseeing three Directors of Student Life and up to three coaches, with a focus on fidelity to our coaching model, skillful management of mental health and conflict-related incidents, and the integration of life skills and social-emotional learning into our programming.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and supervise the student life team, setting performance standards, and providing regular supervision, feedback, and support.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to the site team, and counsel to the Executive Director, supporting students with social and emotional challenges.
  • Ensure a strengths-based and restorative approach in assessment, proactive planning, team coordination, and supported transition plans for students requiring additional support.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior leaders to align student life initiatives with programmatic goals.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, inclusive, and adaptive community for students to achieve their academic and personal goals.
  • Attend weekly Community and Director-Level Meetings, serving on various committees, and providing guidance to staff.
  • Ensure student life, coaching, and community engagement staff are adequately trained.
  • Oversee initial training and ongoing professional development for staff.
  • Provide project management for new and ongoing initiatives as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Participate in the On-Call Rotation and lead cross-site functional teams/committees.
  • Monitor and adhere to budgetary parameters.
  • Engage in recruitment, admission, and marketing activities, representing the student life department in organizational planning and public engagements.

Student Life Program Management:

  • Facilitate weekly meetings to evaluate the effectiveness of student support plans and interventions.
  • Utilize and implement tracking tools for the student goal-setting process.
  • Ensure accurate daily reporting of student progress through Teams and Shift notes.
  • Engage with parents and educational partners to maintain strong collaborative relationships.
  • Develop partnerships with area colleges and student services offices to enhance student opportunities and collaborations.
  • Support the student life team in understanding students’ medication needs and achieving successful medication management.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to student enrollment and arrival.
  • Ensure a strong roster of private therapists and referring professionals to support students' needs.

Student Support and Advocacy:

  • Manage a caseload of 3-6 students, focusing on independent living, social development, communication, and vocational opportunities.
  • Provide backup case management when staff are on leave or have resigned.
  • Develop and implement strategies to empower students and improve executive functioning, self-advocacy, and pro-social communication skills.
  • Conduct weekly sessions with students to support motivation, growth, and goal setting.
  • Build relationships with families, referral sources, therapists, and stakeholders, providing timely updates on student progress.

Program Policy Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Lead the implementation of policies and procedures that enhance student life services, including critical incident planning and reporting.
  • Ensure staff follow and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for incident planning and documentation, aligned with our strengths-based and restorative approach.
  • Coordinate with senior leaders to ensure a cohesive approach to student services and programmatic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of experience in leadership roles within higher education or related settings.
  • Proven track record of effective team management and strategic program development.
  • Deep understanding of the challenges and support needs of diverse learners with co-occurring mental health challenges.

  • Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and program evaluation.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Work primarily from a seated position with some standing and walking.
  • Potential for eyestrain from reading detailed materials and computer work.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Manage deadlines, peak workloads, and changing priorities.
  • Work requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for computer use.

Work Environment

  • Internal: Climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels.
  • External: Limited local travel; occasional classroom environments.
  • No known environmental hazards.
