MANSON CONSTRUCTION is Hiring a Contracts Specialist Near Seattle, WA


Salary: $86,400 - $120,000
Location: Hybrid

SUMMARYWorking under the direction of the Contracts Manager, this position performs contract administration, including but not limited to: contract review, contract negotiation and maintaining company standard contracts resources/library.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Additional duties may be assigned.

Contract Review:

  • Review contract documents, specifications, and general provisions.
  • Identify contractual risk issues, conduct analysis of significant contractual risk, and propose appropriate solutions in accordance with upper management policies.
  • Prepare risk management summaries and reports of contractual issues for upper management.
  • Apply knowledge, skills and experience to contracting issues arising in maritime, federal, federally-assisted and other contracts and related compliance matters in multiple jurisdictions including construction, dredging, design-bid-build, design-build, etc.
  • Prepare questions to project owners as issues are identified, or as requested.
  • Identify, understand and interpret contractual insurance and indemnification requirements; review proof of insurance documents.
  • Identify special insurance needs – i.e. Cargo, Builder’s Risk.
  • Understand lien laws, lien releases and waivers.
  • Research legal issues.

Contract Negotiations:

  • Understand, interpret and communicate risk transfer issues.
  • Assist with negotiating acceptable risk transfer contract clauses.
  • Assist in drafting / amending contracts.
  • Support project personnel with contractual issues.
  • Draft and review/approve subcontracts and other agreements for project/field personnel.
  • Communicate contract policy and practice to project/field personnel.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with General Counsel/outside legal counsel.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with stakeholders.

Contract Data Base:

  • Administer and maintain library of standard contracts, including master agreements, subcontracts, professional services agreements, purchase orders, towing agreements, time charters (various), equipment rental agreements, bareboat charters, joint venture documents, etc.
  • Administer and maintain library of standard clauses for amending contracts i.e. mapping clause, waiver of consequential damages, etc.
  • Maintain shared directory files according to department protocols and upload documents to department SharePoint.
  • Prepare tutorials & training materials as directed.

Claims Management and Reporting:

  • Assist field personnel with claims documentation.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with General Counsel and outside legal counsel as necessary
  • Prepare and edit accurate professional correspondence and documents.
  • Photocopy and scan a variety of documents as requested.
  • Support and administer other contract activities and as assigned by Contracts Manager.

Ensure compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment.

QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform satisfactorily the essential duties and responsibilities noted above.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited college or university, and a minimum of 3-5 years directly related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding applicable FAR provisions and clauses and construction industry experience preferred; paralegal, Juris Doctor’s degree and maritime law experience strongly preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust have a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Advanced knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the internet required. Adobe Acrobat (Professional) and SharePoint strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Position is primarily an office position, performs work at a desk. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) in order to conduct job site visits (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed shoes, respirators, etc.), and able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures.
