FUNCTION: The Data Quality Analyst will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of our data assets. This position involves participating in data quality initiatives, developing, and implementing data quality standards, and working closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in data quality management practices. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and possesses a deep understanding of data quality and data observability methodologies. [This position is hybrid with locations options of either Buffalo, NY or Wilmington, DE] POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Utilize Big data, distributed data processing technologies, and Structured Query Language (SQL) skills to profile or identify data quality issues in various database technologies. Utilize lineage tool to help understand data processing, vulnerabilities, and targets for data quality improvement. Identify, assess, monitor, document, and communicate potential quality issues in the way data is collected, stored, processed, or used. Create data quality business-critical dashboards for multiple departments. Use data preparation tools to analyze, explore and mine data sets to support data quality reporting, dashboard building and ad-hoc analysis. Aggregate data quality measurement and metric generation into quality performance indicators. Track disposition of identified data issues and escalate non-dispositioned data anomalies in accordance with service-level agreements (SLAs). Utilize data profiling tools and techniques to analyze data sources and identify quality issues, anomalies, and trends. Develop and enforce data quality standards, policies, and procedures to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and reliability. Collaborate with data stewards, data engineers, and business stakeholders to establish and maintain data quality practices. Establish process and strategy for Extra, Transform and Load (ETL)/Data-Load & Data Integration based data quality assessment and controls. Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data quality management, governance, and observability. Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned. NATURE AND SCOPE: MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years related experience. Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) and experience with database management systems. Strong understanding of data quality principles, methodologies, and best practices. Proficiency in data quality and observability tools (e.g., Informatica Cloud Data Quality, Monte Carlo, Anomalo, Collibra OwlDQ etc.) and data profiling techniques. Experience with database or data analytics related programming languages. Strong analytical skills/problem solving/conceptual thinking. IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Experience in designing ETL/Data integration processes. Experience using data quality and governance tools. Experience with DQ dimensions like completeness, validity, accuracy, timeliness etc. Experience with data quality frameworks and practices. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think critically. Proficiency in SQL and experience with database management systems. Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data issues to non-technical stakeholders. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience with AI/ML driven data quality and observability tools. Experienced with scripting language (Python etc.) is a plus. Experience with Cloud Technology (Microsoft Azure, Snowflake etc.) is a plus. Experience with ETL/Data integration and Data Warehouse.
