Manzo Elementary School is Hiring an Instructional Specialist - Ecology (Effective 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR) Near Arizona, AZ

SUMMARY

The Instructional Specialist Ecology position coordinates school-garden based education while incorporating social emotional learning, increased movement, and school garden education. This position will provide school garden-based lessons to all classes on a regular basis and as well as support to teachers transitioning to outdoor learning along with professional development trainings. The position will expand Green Academy ecology lessons into the classroom tying into STEM objectives. The candidate for this position would ideally have a background in Agriculture, Education or Political Science along with experience working in Title I schools.

PHYSICAL TASKS

Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion may be required. Work may involve occasional lifting and carrying weights up to 25 pounds. Moderate walking, stooping, bending, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time may be required as a normal part of the job. Employees must have a valid driver’s license. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability is required.

Communicates. Reads. Comprehends. Performs functions from written and oral instructions and from observing others. Evaluates written materials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE, AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED

Develops and recommends project actions that meet program goals, objectives, and the specific project specifications focused around social emotional learning, physical education, and ecology. Implements project activities and services, coordinating with other programs, departments, or schools involved in the assigned project. Provides professional development and training to district staff as necessary and participates in committees related to project. Facilitates and advises supervisor regarding new or existing project criteria, evaluates and makes recommendations for updates and changes. Prepares periodic reports and evaluations on project activities, progress or status. Prepares presentations, written specifications, newsletters, student/parent materials, and/or lesson plans for training and activities of project. Serves as a resource and technical expert to employees and administration for assigned functional area. Receives and responds to information through a computerized system

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS

Uses office equipment such as telephone, computer, printer and copier. Uses specialized equipment consistent with the project activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoor or outdoor environment consistent with assigned project including office environment. Contact with students, staff and public.

CONTROL, SUPERVISION

May coordinate, monitor or supervise the activities of assigned staff. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSHigh School Diploma or G.E.D.Associate’s (or higher) degree, or two-years (60 Semester-Hour credits) of study at an institute of higher learningORCompletion of an AZ Department of Education-approved Academic Assessment Test.Copy of diploma, transcripts or test results must be submitted at time of hire.Two years of experience (In Ecology).Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehendwritten/graphic and oral instructions.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience as a teacher aide.Bilingual in English and SpanishADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIREFBI fingerprint background check.Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.Employees assigned to certain sites that are working towards or hold NAEYC (National Association forthe Education of Young Children) accreditation, are required to have or be pursuing ECE (EarlyChildhood Education) certification; ECE Certification is required within two years of hire.

FTE: 1.0 – 8 hours per dayWork Calendar: 9.0 month 

Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.
