LOCATION: District
PAY RANGE: C9-5 Range, $20.83 - $30.20 per hour.
CALENDAR: 260 Days, 8 Hours per day
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SummaryAs a Maintenance Worker for the school district, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the upkeep and functionality of school facilities. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of maintenance tasks, maintaining assigned District facilities to consistently ambitious standards through maintenance, repairs, and installations related to grounds, landscaping, athletic fields, and/or playgrounds.
You will contribute to ensuring the safety of students, staff, and public by addressing maintenance issues promptly and efficiently, regarding use of District grounds.
Your role will involve collaborating with other team members and following established procedures to maintain the school district's facilities to high standards.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and/or repair equipment or systems related to grounds, landscaping, athletic fields, and/or playgrounds. Assess problems and plan and execute appropriate solutions. This may include but is not limited to the following:
  • Repair and replace fixtures, equipment, and furniture as needed to maintain a safe and functional learning environment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment and systems to extend their lifespan and minimize disruptions.
  • Installs or repairs white boards, chalk boards, tack strips, handrails, coat racks, countertops, blinds.
  • May inspect turf conditions on District grounds; monitor sprinkler application rates and adjust; activate/evacuate irrigation systems for spring/winter; and apply herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides as needed. Evaluates repairs; modifies and performs repairs using blueprints; and considering building code and standards. Evaluate the irrigation system and perform repairs as needed on the irrigation system.
  • Purchase supplies and/or materials as deemed appropriate by maintenance supervisor.
  • Complete required paperwork through District work order system. Reviews work orders, prioritizes, and determines supplies for repair and purchases supplies using the district purchase order system
  • Sweep and/or paint parking lots and play pads. Remove graffiti.
  • May assist in minor maintenance activities utilizing secondary skills, as required.
  • Respond to emergencies.
  • Attend training classes to maintain or increase the level of training and professional expertise.
  • Perform snow and ice removal with plow units or shovels as required. Assists with snow removal efforts on a 24 hour on-call basis during the winter.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education And TrainingHigh school diploma or equivalent.
ExperienceOne to two years of experience in grounds and/or turf maintenance and repair.
Three years preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, & Equipment
  • Basic communication skills including reading, writing, and knowledge of English.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Technical skills in industry-accepted standards related to construction, installation, and maintenance of landscaping, irrigation, and/or playground equipment/systems.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
Materials And Equipment Operating Knowledge
  • Ability to operate various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate light and heavy-duty equipment within six months after hire.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Backflow Prevention Testing and Irrigation Contractor certifications preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • CPR and First Aid preferred.
Supervisory/Technical ResponsibilityThis job has no supervisory responsibilities, however, a person in this position may serve as a coordinator or lead person on special projects. Provides technical expertise and assistance across the district.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee constantly is required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, stoop, squat, twist, reach above shoulder; grasp; or crouch and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to crawl; kneel; forcefully grasp; sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee will be exerting 100 pounds of force occasionally, and over 50 pounds of force frequently, and over 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
