The Maintenance Assistant performs maintenance duties in and around campus facilities to support the work of our Maintenance Supervisor; troubleshoots, performs repairs and responds to emergency calls for service; works closely with employees and the public to maintain the safety and good repair of all building needs of the area; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations.

Duties:

• Works with the Maintenance Supervisor to schedule and performs routine and comprehensive maintenance of assigned facilities.
• Reports and responds to emergency calls for assistance.
• Review all work orders at the beginning of every day.
• Responds to service requests in a timely fashion and coordinates resources to meet the needs.
• Performs various maintenance duties such as repair and paint drywall, installation and repair to fixtures and appliances.
• Troubleshoots and repairs minor plumbing and electrical problems; replaces a variety of light bulbs; replacing HVAC air filters and lighting accessories.
• Escort the exterminator to all the properties.
• Operates power equipment such as snow blower, and hand power tools.
• Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
• Work effectively in and around the public; perform physical labor; understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.
• Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions to remove snow in front of doors, shovel a path and sprinkle salt.
• Move furniture and help setup/breakdown tables & chairs when necessary.
• Other duties assigned by Maintenance Supervisor /Deputy Director.
• Normal work hours are Mon – Fri, 9 am to 5 pm.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to work independently and interact appropriately with staff and residents.
• Have a minimum of 5 years work experience in construction or buildings maintenance.
• Ability to use a computer & email to communicate and record services.
• Clean driving record and personal transportation.

Equipment Used: The qualified candidate must demonstrate proficiency with many types of tools, including but not limited to: hand tools, multimeter, snow blower, toilet snake.
