- Seven years of experience in skilled construction or maintenance, with three years of supervisory experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
- American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) within six months of hire
- Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) within six months of hire
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Eight years of supervisory experience in public works construction or street maintenance
- Supervisory experience in road construction or road maintenance
- Experience providing leadership to a workgroup consisting of 50 full-time positions
- Experience preparing budgets for similar workgroups and/or project cost estimating
- Emergency response experience in opening and closing roadways and working with Emergency Management Offices (FEMA, ADEM, or MCDEM)
- Direct and coordinate the activities for field operations. Develop, implement, and supervise comprehensive maintenance plans for roadways, including regular inspections and assessments to identify repair and maintenance needs
- Establish and monitor quality control processes to ensure high-quality maintenance work, including road surface repairs, guardrail repair, signage, and pavement markings
- Develop and execute emergency response plans for roadway incidents such as storm damage, flooding, or natural disasters. Manage debris, litter, and obstacles from roadways and oversee roadway infrastructure, such as routine maintenance, grading, sweeping, weed spraying, repairing damaged guardrails, and vegetation management
- Prepare and manage budgets for roadway maintenance projects, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources and adherence to budgetary constraints. Administer and monitor the annual branch budget, daily, monthly, and quarterly reports, and maintain operational records
- Coordinate the allocation of equipment, materials, and resources required for maintenance projects, ensuring availability and efficiency
- Work with supervisors to correct performance deficiencies; counsel and implement discipline procedures as needed
- Review the work of supervisors to ensure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities
- Evaluate daily operations and activities, and recommend improvements and modifications; plan schedule and prioritize activities and projects
- Assure compliance with all operational and safety rules and regulations, and department policies, procedures, and standards
- Respond to inquiries and resolve complaints and inquiries from the general public and coordinate activities with other County departments and City and State agencies as necessary
- Interact with Public Information Officers and the local community, addressing concerns and providing information about maintenance activities. May attend public meetings and respond to inquiries
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree
- Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
- Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
- The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. The position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. Must be able to work in all-weather types (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain); must have manual dexterity of hands and body Must be able to sit, stand, walk, drive, climb, bend
