Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

As the Suicide Prevention Coordinator, you will support Maricopa County Public Health in our effort to reduce the number of suicides occurring in our community. You will identify and interpret public health data to plan and evaluate suicide prevention projects and to identify ways to fill gaps in county-wide suicide prevention initiatives. You will oversee funding projects for high-impact communities of suicide with evidence-based suicide prevention strategies.

We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work, Behavioral Health, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Job Contributions
  • Develops and implements upstream approaches to mental health promotion and suicide prevention programs
  • Strengthens partnerships with agencies that serve groups at higher risk of suicide, such as military families, those impacted by substance abuse, foster care, juvenile justice, Native American, Latino/Hispanic, and LGBTQ populations
  • Responsible for knowing and staying up to date on suicide-related data and research, suicide prevention strategies and recommendations, innovative strategies in the field, and new education and awareness campaigns at the local, state, and national levels
  • Determining how to break down and apply the implementation of suicide prevention and evidence-based strategies in a manner relevant to achieve Maricopa County Public Health objectives
  • Works with the Epidemiologists to identify data points relevant to suicide prevention and works with partners to both share data and develop operational plans using data
  • Engages new stakeholders statewide to extend the reach and impact of suicide prevention efforts to new partners and new regions of the state
  • Initiates pilot programs that are identified and supported by MCDPH Suicide Mortality Review Board (SMRB)
  • Works with community-level prevention organizers to promote collaboration and best practice suicide prevention
  • Provide minimally quarterly reports (progress toward deliverables, success achieved during the preceding quarters and challenges encountered) with metrics identified by contractor and MCDPH, with monthly meetings with ADHS Suicide Prevention Program Manager
  • Assist in budgeting, fiscal management, and grant writing
Working Conditions
  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
  • Ability to exert up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license is required upon hire
  • Within one month of hire, all employees are required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test
