Marin is a three-year-old startup creating skincare products for people with dry, damaged, eczema-prone skin, using a protein found in lobster as the key ingredient, and to say the least, our DTC growth has been explosive. About the Role

Joining the team in a stage of rapid growth, you’ll become the go-to person in our lab, the production-minded, scientifically-curious, and detail-oriented boots on the ground person both executing and managing the protein purification operation – working collaboratively with CEO, Co-founders, and Senior Manager of Customer Experience to turn our raw material into the clean, super-effective skincare ingredient: Marine Glycoproteins.

On a week-to-week basis, you’ll oversee the start-to-finish production Glycoproteins for use in skincare product manufacturing; performing standard biochemistry laboratory techniques to handle, purify, sample, and analyze data points, managing the flow of raw and purified material throughout our warehouse to and from our suppliers and manufacturers, and carrying out weekly experiments innovating new, more efficient and higher quality practices across the entire supply chain, particularly with novel purification protocols to increase process efficiency and yield to meet manufacturing output objectives.

About You

We’re looking for the person who’s as obsessed with process and production as much as they are passionate about science and innovation (beyond the classroom) – you’re always thinking about how things work, how to make things better, and may or may not have performed DIY chemistry experiments in your kitchen as a kid. While strongly science and process-savvy, you also have experience working on a team in a fast-paced environment and naturally rise as a leader-by-example for others – ego is no part of the equation for you. You hold yourself to a high standard, continuously seek out opportunities for your own personal and professional development, and are meticulously detail oriented – comfortable asking for help while able to be self-sovereign in complex, new environments.

Position Reports To

Chief Executive Officer and Senior Manager of Customer Experience

Responsibilities

• Perform batch-to-batch protein purification protocols to prepare raw material for use as standardized skincare ingredient.
• Collect, coordinate-with, analyze and report sample key data points on a batch-to-batch basis.
• Report weekly on lab production, efficiency and quality KPIs.
• Manage other part and full-time lab staff, maintaining a positive, productive work environment.
• Develop improved protein purification protocols to achieve enhanced process efficiency and yield.
• Assist in miscellaneous customer service, warehouse, fulfillment and marketing activities as needed to collaboratively help hit company goals.
• *Will receive on-the-job training and exposure to the operations of an early-stage startup with the ability to become involved in other parts of the business.

Experience and Skills Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or a related field.
• 1-3 years experience in a chemistry, microbiology or bio-related engineering lab, with a focus on working with proteins.
• Proven ability to be a thoughtful, responsible leader in the lab environment; managing a team and multiple projects at once while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret experimental results.
• Be a driven, passionate, coachable self-starter with a great sense of humor, who’s as confidently ambitious as thoughtfully humble; Ready to learn, grow and enjoy the ride.
• Bring an “anything is figureoutable” and “anything is possible” mindset – you’re a curious, growth mindset oriented person who’s not afraid to try new things and think outside the box.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and comfortably stand for multiple hours.
• Must be energized by all things science and innovation, able to see the challenge of building processes and products that no one has before as fun!
