Marion County Sheriff Office is Hiring a Facilities Services Specialist Near Ocala, FL

JOB
This is a responsible position involving the coordination of inmate workers performing details inside and outside the Marion County Jail. Staff will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within the facility. This is a responsible position which includes supervising inmate workers while they perform the necessary tasks needed to keep the facility clean. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the overall functionality and hygiene of the facility, as well as fostering a secure and rehabilitative environment for inmates to learn skills which could be used upon their release from custody.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties: A. Abide by the “Law Enforcement Code of Ethics”.B. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and county facilities maintenance and the public.C. Ability to be a self-starter, work independently, and complete assigned tasks while working well in a strong team environment.D. Thoroughly know, understand and comply with Florida state statutes pertaining to county detention facilities, the rules and regulations contained in the Florida model jail standards, and accreditation standards.E. Adhere to general rules of safety in all duties, including ensuring adherence to safety rules by inmate workers or other helpers.F. Maintain tool control of all assigned equipment by conducting a workday inventory of all tools.G. Routinely check all assigned equipment for serviceability.H. Be responsible for security and safe use of mechanical tools and equipment assigned to or used by him/herself or personnel under his/her control.I. Be constantly alert and security conscious in order to prevent escapes, introduction of contraband or other violations.J. Maintain proper records of maintenance and repair performed, and submit reports or documentation as required.K. Instructs and guides inmates on the safe use, care and proper return of necessary equipment and tools to perform daily tasks.L. Instruct inmate workers towards completion of environmental services/janitorial sciences certificate program with use of a lesson plan.M. Coordinate all inmate workers assigned to perform the routine duties of jail sanitation inside of the facility.N. Maintain situational awareness and adhere to security procedures while working in close proximity to inmates.O. Be responsible for training new inmate workers in the performance of their assigned tasks.P. Observes, documents, and reports any unusual changes in inmate behavior in accordance with agency policies.Q. Operate custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning machines as needed.R. Perform daily cleaning tasks, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing, and trash removal throughout the facility.S. Once a week, ensure each housing unit is adequately stocked with appropriate amount of chemicals in their caustic cabinet or closet.T. Be alert for conditions or situations which inhibit efficient operations of the agency or the facility services unit and make recommendations for solutions.U. Assist, on an as needed basis, in other areas of the facility services unit to include the laundry, and janitorial services.V. Perform other related duties, as assigned, including modified schedule or temporary re-assignment during declared emergency or activations, as determined by the sheriff.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily an indoor environment within an adult detention facility. Hours may be irregular and occasionally long. Subject to abuse from inmates. Potential for harm present, but unlikely. Subject to contact with inmate(s) having contagious diseases. ADA: Physical and dexterity requirements: Requires light work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time, must be able to climb stairs, and involves exerting between ten (10) and thirty (30) pounds of force on a recurring basis; Requires the ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time, ad operate control mechanisms remotely. Environmental hazards: This job risks exposure to extreme heat and/or cold, bright/dim lights, dusts and pollen, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife, vibrations, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, diseases/pathogens and violence. Sensory requirements: This job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception and texture perception.
