Marion P. Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) is the largest independently-operated free public charter school in Newark, NJ. MPTCS was established in 1999 by a group of individuals who were born and raised in Newark and wanted to provide the best possible educational experience for the next generation of Newarkers. The school is one of the only minority-led charter schools in Newark, reflecting both its student population and the community it serves. MPTCS has grown from four classrooms to four campuses and now serves 1,500 students from prekindergarten through 12th grade.

Computer Applications Teacher (High School)

We are currently seeking a High School Computer Applications Teacher who is passionate about the school’s mission of preparing all scholars to be college and career ready, globally aware, and fully equipped to lead in an evolving society. This is a full-time position and reports to the school’s Principal.

For this role, the Computer Applications Teacher will be responsible for but not limited to:

• Works to achieve district educational goals and objectives by promoting active learning in the classroom using board adopted curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Monitors student academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
• Maintains records of student's educational progress
• Plans class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate for the class and meet the individual needs, interests, and ability levels of all pupils.
• Participates in school level planning, faculty meetings/committees
• Makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
• Upholds and enforces the campus rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
• Performs other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.

What We Require

• Appropriate NJ Teacher Certifications Required
• At least 1-2 years of experience in technology, computer applications, computer science
• At least 1-2 years of experience working with children in an urban setting,
• Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Open to receiving feedback and implementing solutions to improve professional growth and performance
• Willingness to take responsibility for student success
