The Vice President, Performance Advisory provides strategic leadership to drive performance of the organization through talent development strategies solutions. This position is the primary performance advisory lead for all disciplines excluding brand, providing leadership to performance advisors who partner with Global Operations, Global Design, Global Development, Customer Technology Groups, and corporate disciplines including HR, Finance, Global Comms & Public Affairs, Law and more. This leader seeks opportunities to gain synergies by aligning in-continent efforts and needs across disciplines while also championing and leveraging enterprise HR initiatives and solutions. 

This is a high-impact role that influences the upskilling and development of more than 800,000 associates who wear a name badge representing our Marriott Bonvoy portfolio of brands across our managed and franchise hotels as well as those who work in our offices. It does this through responsibility for a team that partners with discipline and HR leaders to look across the organization and impact business outcomes by leveraging talent development capabilities and their own business expertise to proactively influence talent and business decisions. The role influences senior stakeholders to help prioritize investment and learning resources to meet the needs of the business. This position is also responsible for providing a full range of professional advisory activities, including but not limited to: identifying, establishing, and developing relationships with executive client decision makers; providing thought leadership to stakeholders in disciplines and partners in continent; driving business case development for learning investments; and developing and delivering meaningful learning and performance improvement solutions that align to and support the achievement of desired human capital performance outcomes and business results. 

The role also partners with other leaders on the Talent Development leadership team to achieve excellence in the group’s overall performance, both elevating and creating consistency among practices within the team and driving team engagement. 

Additionally, in the next few years, Marriott is embarking on an ambitious journey to significantly evolve both the customer and associate experience through sophisticated technology platforms that will ultimately unlock incredible growth for the company. This digital and tech transformation represents the most significant and intricate undertaking in Marriott’s history. In order to guarantee the success of our 800,000 dedicated associates and 8,500 properties, the Performance Advisory function will be central to stakeholder engagement and championing of a new and robust learning strategy that will serve as the foundation for a modernized and forward-thinking approach to learning long into the future and beyond this transformation effort itself. 

The expected contributions and essential job functions of this role fall into the following key work domains:

  • Global Discipline Priorities & Initiatives: On an annual basis, develop and maintain frameworks for supporting discipline priorities and initiatives through talent development solutions, ensuring connectivity and alignment of efforts across disciplines and continents to broader company, brand, and HR priorities. Consult with senior discipline leaders to identify trends, successes, and areas of need or opportunity, ultimately influencing investments to be made in TD solutions. Drive planning efforts with discipline leaders. Ensure priorities and initiatives can be managed and staffed within the team. Partner within the Talent Development organization, disciplines, HR COEs and vendor partners to execute against the priorities.
  • Discipline Talent Development Roadmaps: Ensure disciplines have strategic roadmaps for driving global performance within that function through talent development solutions, ultimately guiding the strategy and investments in the short and long term for with flexibility built in to adapt to changing priorities or shifts in the business landscape. Seek opportunities to gain efficiencies and effectiveness by aligning in-continent efforts and needs across disciplines while also both championing and leveraging enterprise HR initiatives and solutions. Partner with disciplines to drive transformation and BAU work efforts, ensuring strategic connectivity across disciplines. Prioritizes work of the PA function with the business transformation efforts top of mind. 
  • Team Leadership for Performance Advisors: Team is chartered with the following for their respective disciplines: business client engagement and management; portfolio/program management; project management. Day to day responsibilities of these team members include: business needs assessments, talent strategy development, project leadership: work intake, SOW, design documentation, program and project scoping, oversight for design/development, deployment and evaluation

Experience

  • 15 years of human resources work experience or relevant professional experience: demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance. 
  • Senior level expertise in HR specialist areas (i.e., centers of expertise) preferred.
  • Experience with or extensive knowledge of Marriott’s global disciplines 
  • Experience working in an environment where Cultural awareness is critical to success
  • Experience with talent assessment, assimilation and development, succession management, and organizational effectiveness a plus

Education or Certification

Bachelors Degree required; advanced degree in Human Resources or related field is preferred

Other

Position is based in Bethesda; some travel will be required.
