Job Description:Scientific and Regulatory Affairs (SRA) Innovation Program ManagerThe SRA Innovation Program Manager North America applies technical, organizational, and project managerial skills broadly to provide leadership and guidance to internal partners on regulatory matters, recommend options and implement solutions to resolve problems so that products can be brought to market on a timely and cost-efficient basis.
This role creates and sustains a competitive advantage for Mars Wrigley and supports the achievement of its overall business goals by leading regulatory risk assessment and mitigation of global innovation projects in North America.
Through a high level of agility and independence, this role leads a variety of regulatory activities related to raw materials, finished products, labelling, and claims for global agile innovation launching in North America. This position proactively partners with innovation stakeholders and Regional SRA experts to identify potential regulatory risks and works to bring solutions to the table to enable innovation while ensuring compliance.
What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in a technical area, such as food chemistry, nutrition, food science, biology, chemistry, or toxicology.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in scientific and/or regulatory compliance/affairs and/or a related technical area with food products or related product categories (such as food supplements, cosmetics, and natural health products) with proficiency in food law, nutrition policy, and regulatory affairs for North America.
  • Experience working on large-scale regulatory compliance or regulatory affairs projects involving formulas, ingredients, and labelling.
  • Demonstrated track record of working successfully across functions to achieve shared goals; and proven ability to interact cross-functionally at all levels within the organization.
What will be your key responsibilities?Regulatory risk assessment and mitigation for innovation projects in North America.
  • Serves as the SRA lead and primary point of contact for global agile innovation business stakeholders for issues and projects in North America
  • Provides scientific and regulatory advice for claims, ingredient, recipe and labeling for innovation through cross-functional collaboration with Legal, Science & Technology and Quality. Brings solutions in addition to risk assessments
  • Provides scientific and regulatory advice on route to market for new innovations, working with external experts where needed for new categories or channels
  • Ensures leadership for compliance activities for test-and-learn launches to ensure that ingredients, claims, product and labeling are compliant with relevant market regulations. Partners with regional SRA teams to support the scale up
  • Escalates and communicates key decision points, project highlights and key regulatory issues within the broader SRA Community and Leadership team to ensure proper governance.
  • Establishes and works with relevant external technical consultants to ensure SRA project success criteria is achieved with highest level of quality and efficiency
Proactive partnership with innovation teams to build tools to support innovation and bring the outside in
  • Executes workstreams in aligning ways of working with stakeholders, building internal capabilities and external capabilities, grounding stakeholders with basic regulatory knowledge, and establishing tools to enable speed and agility when partnering with the business for innovation
  • Provide regulatory and strategic guidance to relevant innovation partners on existing, new, and emerging regulatory issues of interest and managing technical regulatory issues.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge and impact on key developments in food law and policy via literature reviews, newsletters, conference attendance, and participation in professional association activities.
  • Based on the business opportunity and value proposition of the innovation projects, leverages external network to bring external provocations and updates in the regulatory areas and beyond.
Global SRA Horizon Scanning and Priority Regulatory Topics
  • Partners internally to understand priorities and impacts of developing legislation and aligns appropriate external positions. Represents the company with external partners to influence developing policy and legislation in line with our aligned positions in a proactive manner; takes leadership to materialize opportunities to support our growth plans
  • Translate global inputs and regional inputs from regulatory issues topic charters to maintain internal Regulatory Issues Management dashboard to provide visibility to business stakeholders, and provide recommendations on actions to take to continue to protect our Freedom to Operate (F2O)
  • Work with relevant technical teams working on F2O projects, to provide necessary SRA support and guidance
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to understand priorities to identify SRA opportunities for proactive regulatory approvals and adjustments to be considered.
  • Turn scientific and regulatory insight into foresight and build appropriate internal and external network to anticipate the impact on the business and shape the regulatory environment
