JOB SUMMARY

The Institutional Data Analyst in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) is pivotal in driving the university's use of data for evidence-based strategic planning, policy-making, and decision-making processes. The primary responsibility of this position is to collect, analyze, and interpret data about multiple aspects of the university's operations, including enrollment, academic performance, retention, graduation rates, student services, faculty, and other institutional metrics. The Institutional Data Analyst will proactively collaborate with the information technology (IT) and the registrar's office to champion systematic data processing using consistent definitions and standards. Additionally, the Institutional Data Analyst will develop and manage enterprise systems for data visualization and reporting to elevate institutional research and serve as an integral component of a cross-university team of administrators and staff to efficiently disseminate relevant data to various stakeholders from a centralized data repository. This position demands strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex data findings clearly and effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSI­­BILITIES

  • Data Collection and Management:
    • Gather and maintain data documentation and definitions from internal and external sources.
    • Establish and maintain databases/ data systems and enterprise systems for assigned tasks and department functions.
    • Develop expertise in external and public data sources (i.e., IPEDS) related to higher education.
    • Identify, investigate, and work to resolve data quality issues to ensure accurate reporting of information.
    • Assure the validity and quality of university data submissions to external agencies and systems.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation:
    • Conducts quantitative and qualitative institutional data analyses across various domains.
    • Interprets data trends, identifying insights, and preparing comprehensive reports.
    • Conducts descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, interprets findings in the institutional context, and writes analytical summaries and technical memoranda.
    • Develops interactive visualizations and dashboards to enhance analysis and effectively present data findings.
  • Assessment Tools Design and Administration:
    • Designs and implements various assessment tools to gather data on student experiences, satisfaction, and outcomes.
  • Institutional Research:
    • Participate in academic and administrative program reviews.
    •  Assist in preparing reports for accreditation, compliance, and other regulatory requirements.
    •  Contribute to developing key performance indicators (KPIs) for various university functions.
    •  Stay current with optimal practices and emerging trends in data analytics and institutional research.
  • Teamwork and Support:
    •  Provide technical support and training on data-related tools and methodologies to university staff and faculty.
    •  Work with IT to optimize data systems for institutional research needs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a higher education or institutional research setting.
  • Expertise with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Proficiency in SQL, database management, and Microsoft 365 applications.
