The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position. # The Oncology Rn is responsible for providing and supervising professional nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with hematologic and oncologic diseases.# Primary duties include assisting physicians in scheduling, ordering, and administering chemotherapy, other drugs, and treatments associated with these diseases.# Coordinates patient care with other members of the department to ensure quality and convenience of patient care.# The RN must use critical thinking abilities in the evaluation, assessment, and care of patients.# This nurse must have specialized oncology/chemotherapy knowledge and skills gained through formal education and oncology experience. This position functions under the authority of the Clinical Manager in accordance with the nursing guidelines provided by the Director of Nursing for Marshall Medical Center South and the policies and procedures for Marshall Medical Centers. Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: The RN is responsible for all nursing care activities; initial assessment of patients, generating nursing care plans, providing direct nursing care, patient education, assisting physician with procedures and interacting with Social Services as needed to provide patient resources.# Adherence to hospital/department policy #Maintains good attendance record. #Arrives to work punctually #Follows dress code #Observes confidentiality #Adheres to safety policies #Participates in continuing education #Follows department of nursing and hospital policy and procedures #Complies with call and staffing assignments # Patient Care #Uses clinical and listening skills along with good professional judgment to assess patients appropriately #Accurately takes and records patient#s vital signs and other appropriate patient observations. #Collaborates with other members of the health team #Educates and instructs patient and family.# Documents education based on assessment #Conscientiously and continuously applies nursing principles in patient care #Ensures patient is comfortable during treatment # Clinical Duties #Provides treatment/medications per physician#s orders #Completes appropriate charting, including vials, medications/treatments given, start/stop times, etc. # Performs patient care and operational duties as assigned # Care of Environment and Equipment #Maintains work area and patient exam rooms #Maintains equipment #Reports equipment building maintenance concerns to the appropriate personnel through online work orders and/or by ## reporting to supervisor # Information processing and document #Proper documentation in charts/EMR #Ensures correct charges are entered for treatments and supplies through proper documentation/coding #Uses computer system efficiently # Interpersonal/Customer Service Skills #Responds in a polite and timely manner to phone calls and messages #Communicates effectively with patients/families, physicians, and other staff #Maintains flexibility and adaptability #Assists co-workers as needed and resolves problems #Consistently meets the hospital#s Journey to Service Excellence Standards Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current RN license as issued by the State of Alabama Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or willingness to acquire within 30 days Current Chemotherapy Certification Preferred: ############## Previous Oncology and/or Chemotherapy Nursing Experience # # # # # # #
