SUMMARY

Skilled and senior work in the performance of manual tasks and a wide variety of construction and maintenance work to include carpentry, concrete finishing, heavy construction, landscape and right of way maintenance.

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AMD ABILITIES

Performs maintenance activities such as tree trimming, cutting grass, hand loading of vegetative debris, weed eating ditch banks and ditch bottoms.

Performs traffic control and maintains the work zone through the use of maintenance of traffic signs, flagging operations, and twoway radios.

Drives large truck and other equipment as necessary (such as fork lift, backhoe, tractor, trailer).

Cleans catch basins, culverts, gutters and other drainage structures.

Loads and unloads materials and supplies.

Assists in the forming, pouring and finishing of concrete.

Interaction with the public that will be present intermittently throughout the workday.

Acts as lead worker as required.

Operates powered machinery such as but not limited to, pumps, chain saws, pole saws, drills, hammers, mixers, mowers, light and medium trucks.

Performs work found in the Maintenance Worker classification.
Performs work related to this job description as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of tools used in maintenance and construction.

Knowledge of occupational hazards in relevant work areas.

Knowledge and ability to maintain hand and power tools and equipment used in the maintenance field.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to perform strenuous labor tasks and lift up to one hundred (100) pounds under varying weather conditions.

Ability to exercise initiative; work independently and complete jobs in the absence of direct supervision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma and three (3) years of combined experience in heavy construction and/or landscape maintenance and the use of related tools and equipment.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License Class E at time of hire.
Possession of a CDL-B Driver's License with tank vehicle endorsement and no restrictions on air brakes within 1 year of hire preferred.
Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License B may be required depending on job assignment and department discretion.

Work is performed primarily outdoors.
